Fremont Parks and Recreation recognition

Fremont Parks and Recreation Department, Ridge Cemetery Association and Friends of the Fremont Parks Inc. honored several individuals and businesses for contributions made during 2004. Those included:

Board members

* Skate Park at Miller Park grant: Allyn Foundation Inc.

* Memorial gifts: The estate of Leslie Sorensen designated a gift for baseball equipment; the Leo Richter family designated a gift for youth programs.

* Christensen Field Soccer Complex: Hormel Foods Trust made a contribution to the development of a Hispanic adult soccer league; the Nebraska Coursing Association made a contribution for usage.

* Aquatic Park project: The Valmont Donor-Advised Fund contributed money to help fund the advertising.

* Scholarship fund donors: Don and Millies, Fremont Rotary Club, First State Bank.

* Nighthawk Baseball: Built a permanent concession/storage building at Clemmons Park, added Turface to the infield at Ronin Park. Labor was donated by: Bill Peck, Scott Swanson, Bill Lambrecht, Jim Savio, Kyle Wiegert, Lance Clark, Dave Hahn.

Parks and Rec Department honors

* Eagle Scout projects: Kyle O'Connell of Troop 101 installed pole and cable traffic controls at Hormel Park; heplers included Greg Grosse, Kyle and Taylor O'Connell, Bradley Panning Dean and John Soltesz, Skyler Tharp, Bryce Walker, Dean Gerdts, Garlyn Grosse, P. Pedersen, John Ramsay, Scott Tharp, Randy Vanek, Bill and Tracey O'Connell. John Peatrowsky of Troop 296 installed woodchips on the new walking trail on the west side of Johnson Lake; helpers included Joe Pehrson, Jamie Hock, Lane Hoskins, Jourdan Clark, Rashen Svatora, Richard Reiger, Wes Schierman, Carl Layman, Denny and Cheryl Hesman, Max Hesman, Zach Weaver, Cody Christensen, Terri Roberts, Jon Booze, Yogi Martin.

* Hormel Park trail work and park clean up: Midland Lutheran College Blue Key Organization — Dr. Gary Carlson, Richard Felt, Caleb Fintel, Stephen Foreman, Andrew Miller, Tom Sauser, Brian Shahan, Justin Peterson, Tyler Niday, Eddie Leaders, Matt Hanson.

* Van Anda Park flower bed maintenance: Home Grown Kids 4-H Club — Tammy, Grant and Oliver Kobza; Samara, Jonny, Mandy and Grace Boothe; Cary, Monica, David, Amanda and Samantha Hughes; Lori, Jaimee and Abbie Brainard; Hallie Frank; Joe and Anna Elsey; DiAnn, Salem, Rush, and Gage Boehm.

* Johnson Park: Kay Hirsh donated a spruce tree in honor of her mother, Lola Hirsh. About 50 Fremont Middle School students, along with science teachers, Bill Saeger, Alisa Smits, Dee Kohl, Diane Johnson and supervisors, cleaned up the construction debris, installed two park rule signs and traffic control pole and cable at the end of the parking lot.

* Barnard Park gazebo: Barnard Park Historic District made arrangements and funded the power washing, top coating, and repair. Representatives for this project include Gail and Nancy Nielsen, Bev Rosenbaum and Julie OHanlon.

* American flags: Woodmen of the World donated seven to the department.

* Ronin Pool: Skip Sawyer volunteered to do power washing.

* Schwarz Memorial area at Soccer Complex: Fremont Soccer Club finished landscaping, Fremont Monument Company donated the marker.

* Fremont Soccer Club Micro Soccer Club: Volunteer coaches were Kara Tiede, Jeremy Tiede, Mike Schroeder.

* Fremont Tennis Association: Lynn Lamprecht, president, and the Fremont Family YMCA, represented by Diana Myers, funded and assisted in conducting a city wide youth tennis development summer program.

* City Youth Archery Program: Vince Smith, Jerry Bennett, Bob Baustian, and Brad and Chris Johannesen were volunteer instructors.

* Thank yous: Larry Koski for summer drive-in movies at Christensen Field; Pathfinder Woodcarvers for their exhibitions, demonstrations and class instruction; Keene Memorial Library for managing the Web site.

* Public service: Fremont Tribune, KHUB/KFMT, Time Warner Cable.

* Arbor Day celebration: Siffring Landscaping donated trees; Dave Mooter from the Community Forest Service was speaker; Katie McShane and the Fremont Middle School String Quartet Department performed.
