WEST POINT — A South Dakota man accused of kidnapping an 11-year-old West Point girl on Saturday was a friend of the girl’s family, authorities said.

Jamie Davis, 30, of Salem, S.D., is accused of kidnapping Lisa Marie Porter on Saturday and then leading police on a chase through eastern Nebraska.

Lisa Marie was not hurt, the Nebraska State Patrol reported.

An Amber Alert was issued Saturday after Lisa Marie was abducted near West Point. Police said she was likely in the company of Davis and traveling southwest toward Grand Island in a pickup.

West Point police chief Mike Fisher said Davis was a friend of the girl’s family.

“The family just moved here two months ago,” Fisher said, adding he believed they moved to West Point from South Dakota.

Fisher said a neighbor reported to police that he saw the girl arguing with Davis in the front yard of the family’s home, but the neighbor turned away after seeing the argument.

“We don’t know how he got the girl in the truck,” Fisher said.

The State Patrol reported the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the vehicle was spotted heading south on U.S. Highway 81 about 4:30 p.m.

A state trooper and a York police officer attempted to stop Davis’ pickup, but Davis swerved toward the York officer when he got out of his vehicle, the state patrol reported. The officer fired at the vehicle at least once, flattening the left, rear tire.

Authorities said Davis continued south on Highway 81, but lost control of the pickup about two miles south of Interstate 80. The vehicle was then pinned in by two Nebraska State Patrol cars and the girl fled, police said.

Davis was apprehended and taken to the York County jail.

Lisa Marie was put in protective custody.

The weekend’s snow storm has prevented West Point police from talking with the girl as of this morning, but Fisher said he hopes that conversation will take place this afternoon.

“After that, everything will be turned over to the county attorney,” Fisher said. “He’ll decide what charges to file.”
