Fremont man indicted on drug charges

A Fremont man has been named in a three-count indictment handed down by a federal grand jury, U.S. Attorney Joe W. Stecher announced Wednesday.

Terry G. Hammond, 45, was charged with conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine. Another count of the indictment seeks the forfeiture of Hammond's interest in the proceeds or property used in the alleged violations.

Under the first count of the indictment, authorities accused Hammond of conspiring to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine from September 2006 to April 2.

Under the second count of the indictment, Hammond is accused of possessing

50 grams or more of meth with the intent to distribute it on or about April 2.

If convicted, the maximum possible penalty on the first count is 10 years to life in prison and a $4 million fine. The maximum possible penalty on the second count is five to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine.
