Edward Ourada Sr.

Edward L. Ourada Sr., 83, of Prague died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.

He was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Rescue to Anton and Rose (Vrana) Ourada. He attended grade school at District 51 near Prague. He farmed near Rescue for a few years before entering the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Hawaii. After the war, he continued to farm near Rescue. He married Henrietta Novak on Aug. 21, 1950, in Plasi. They lived on a farm west of Prague for a few years before moving to Prague in 1957. He worked as a mechanic for about one year at a service station owned by Sid Sedlacek. In 1958, he became the principal investor and manager of the grain elevator/hardware-general store in Abie, and later acquired the elevator in Weston. It became known as A & W Grain Company. He ran the company until selling it in 1989 but continued to work there for another seven years before retiring. He lived his entire life in the Prague area until recently when his health failed.

He was a member of Prague American Legion Post 254 and a former member of the Prague Fire Department.

Survivors include: a son, Edward Ourada Jr. of Prague; three daughters, Kathleen (and husband, Terry) Hass of Cape Fair, Mo., and Sandra Wesely and Lorri Petrzelka, both of Prague; two brothers, Ray Ourada of Wahoo and Joe Ourada of Omaha; a sister, Gladys (and husband, Jim) Pokorny of David City; a sister-in-law, Helen Ourada of Prague; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son-in-law, a brother, sister and brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home Chapel in Wahoo with the Rev. Patrick Marshall officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service time Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prague National Cemetery with military honors by Prague American Legion Post 254.
