With all the excitement about the presidential candidates, it’s easy to lose sight of the many local offices on the ballot at the approaching primary election. All of these are important, but one that has had little attention may well have a major impact on Dodge County and especially on Fremont. I’m referring to our representative on the Metro College board.

The area in which we’re located and which will be voting on this representative includes all of Dodge County and a portion of Douglas County - Bennington, Elkhorn, Waterloo and parts of Omaha. Metro College has had a center in Fremont for several years and, with the acquisition of our old Junior High School as a classroom facility, has greatly expanded its Fremont operation and thus its economic impact in Dodge County.

To put it bluntly - shouldn’t our city and county have some representation on the board that is responsible for the operation of this important organization?

Fortunately, we have a Fremont candidate who would bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the position. I’m referring to Roger Larsen, who taught German in Fremont High for 24 years and then accepted a position as director of the Higher Education Division of the Nebraska State Education Association. In that capacity he often worked with the Metro College board and became familiar with the workings of the board. He would be an excellent addition to that board and his election would mean that a Dodge County person would be one of the eleven Representatives on this important body.

I urge you to support Roger Hans Larsen as you cast your vote in the primary on Tuesday.
