FAMC earns safety award

Monday, May 12, 2008 - 10:49:37 am CDT

Fremont Area Medical Center has been awarded the Nebraska Safety Council’s highest workplace safety honor, the Peak Performance Award, for its outstanding workplace safety program. FAMC was the only healthcare facility in the northeast chapter region to receive this level of award and was selected based on its training, safety program, injuries and lost-time statistics.

Larry Nelson, FAMC facilities safety program manager, accepted the award on behalf of the medical center at the 2008 Safety, Health and Environmental Conference and Exposition held April 10 at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel in Lincoln.

“As a healthcare provider, many of our goals focus on safety for patients and residents,” said Patrick Booth, FAMC president and chief executive officer, “but we’re always also mindful of providing an environment that’s safe and comfortable for our employees, as well. This award reflects our commitment to that.”

FAMC’s Employee Safety Committee provides information and training to promote safety for employees on the job and at home, as well as training for unexpected events. The committee monitors potential for and actual injuries that occur at FAMC, sponsors an annual Employee Safety Day, and offers information on various safety topics in the bi-weekly employee newsletter.
