Mary Bigelow

Mary L. Bigelow, 92, of Fremont died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Mary Lorraine Bigelow was born Dec. 10, 1915, in Burt County, near Lyons. Her parents were William and Grace (Rogers) Bigelow. She attended Bertha Country School through the eighth grade, and then Lyons High School, graduating in 1932. She enrolled at Wayne State College, majoring in elementary education, and then later received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Mary taught in Schulz Country School, Beemer Public Schools, Tekamah Public Schools, then came to Fremont and taught at Linden Elementary School for many years before retiring.

She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, having been baptized and confirmed in the Divide Center Presbyterian Church near Lyons. Following her move to Fremont, she became a very faithful member of The Presbyterian Church here, where she was a member of Circle 1. She also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Fremont, and she was a charter member of Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Survivors include: a nephew, Dr. Brad Bigelow (and wife, Karen) of Kearney; two grandnieces, Lisa (and husband, Jeff) Kurtz of Overland Park, Kan., and LeAnn Bigelow Welsh of Naples, Fla.; and five great-grandnieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace Bigelow; and her brother, Forrest Bigelow.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont with the Rev. William Lewis officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Lyons Cemetery.
