Fremont boys third at Class A state meet

Fremont’s boys track team has finished third in the Class A state track and field meet. Kearney ran away with the title, scoring 105.5 points. Millard West was second with 61 followed by the Tigers with 57.5 points.

Bishop Neumann has captured the Class B girls state track title. Neumann picked up 60.75 points to claim the title. McCook was second with 43.5 points.

North Bend Central took second place in the Class C girls field. Laurel-Concord won with 51 points, followed by the Tigers’ 44 points.

Fremont’s Jon Ronhovde won the 1600 with a time of 4:24.781 followed by teammate Mitch Hunt in 4:26.599.

In Saturday’s first final, Hunt was fifth and Ronhovde sixth in the 800. Hunt finished in 1:57.175 while Ronhovde finished in 1:57.820.

Also picking up points for Fremont were Lance Ringle, who was third in the discus with a throw of 156-8, and B.J. Wilkins, who tied for eighth in the pole vault with a leap of 13-0.

Neumann wrapped up its championship with a second-place finished in the 1600 relay. The team of Megan Meduna, McKenzie Fujan, Abby Pospisil and Sara Reeves had a time of 4:06.328.

Neumann pick up points with a first- and fifth-place finish in the 300 low hurdles. McKenzie Fujan was first with a time of 46.161 while teamate Holly Fujan wqas fifth in 47.861. Neumann also had a first- and third-place finish in the 100 high hurdles. Elizabeth Mach was first in 15.372 seconds while McKenzie Fujan was third in 15.518. Alyssa Stanek also contributed with a seventh-place finished in the high jump. She had a leap of 5 foot. Mach also was third in the triple jump with a leap of 36-4 1/4.

Neumann’s 400 relay team of McKenzie Fujan, Megan Meduna, Holly Fujan and Emily Kmiecik was sxith with a time of 50.795.

North Bend’s Samantha Renter brought home a first-place finished in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 7 3/4 inches. Renter also was fourth in the high jump at 5-2.

Area place winners on Saturday included:

Class B boys: West-Point Beemer’s 1600 relay team of Aaron Brockmann, Chris Storm, Jonathan Erickson and Derek Wegner was fifth with a time of 3:30.053; Alvin Voss of Arlington was seventh in the discus with a throw of 143-4; Skyler Luxa of Blair was third in the 110 high hurdles in 14.702; Matt Gates of Logan View was fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:58.002.

Class B girls: Arlington’s Amy Hilgenkamp was eighth with a throw of 119-4; Erin Curran of Wahoo was sixth in the 1600 with a time of 5:23.410.

Class C boys: Jeff Pokorny of Howas was fourth in the discus with a throw of 145-10; TylerGooch of Howells was sixth in the 100 with a time of 11.709 and seventh in the 200 in 23.157; Joey DiGiacomo of Yutan won the 110 high hurdles in 15.132; North Bend Central’s Colby Dolezal was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 30.068 and was sixth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.822.

Class C girls: West Point Central Catholic’s 1600 relay team of Tatem Kreikemeir, Melissa Otte, Kelsey Knobbe and Shelby Randel was second with a time of 4:12.537; Annie Jackson of Tekamah-Herman was first in the shot put with a throw of 43-7 1/2 while North Bend Central’s Deanna Dirkschneider was second with 40-7; Cassie Schutt of North Bend Central was seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:00.980; Kiley Nelson of Oakland-Criag was sixth in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 16.307; Yutan’s 400 relay team of Jancye Trost, Andrea Neukirch, Amanda Hart and Emilee Page finished second with a time of 50.364 seconds.

Class D boys: Dodge’s Jacob Kreikemeier was second in the 800 with a time of 1:59.727 and third in the 1,600 with a 4:38.889.

Class D girls: Carol Miller of Mead finished second in the 1600 with a time of 5:27.652; Bergan’s Shelly Jacobs was fourth in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 16.397.

My hearty congradulations to all who participated in the High school state track meet the last 2 days. You all deserve many kudos for jobs well done wether you won, placed or lost. I am a North Bend Central Tiger fan but to me the state track meet is about ability and teamwork for all cities, towns and villages as you all come together for freindly compitition. Best of luck to all graduating seniors!!
