Duck hunters might want to keep their eyes on the Elkhorn River near Scribner Sunday. We’ve heard there should be hundreds of ducks on the water.
Of course, those all will be of the rubber variety.
The second annual Duck Race is set for 1 p.m. Sunday — and it’s just one of the many things to do this weekend in the Fremont area.
Ducks can be purchased from any Scribner-Snyder softball or baseball player or by calling Roni Wobken at (402) 679-7578. Event proceeds go to purchase playground equipment at the Scribner-Snyder Sports Complex.
Each duck is numbered and the owner of the winner duck will receive $300. Second-place is $200 and third-place is $100.
Ducks will be dropped in the Elkhorn River about 1 mile upstream of Scribner’s Riverfront Park. The finish line is the Elkhorn River Bridge.
Root beer floats, lemonade and family activities are planned during the wait for the ducks to cross the finish line.
The Duck Race is not the only activity planned for Scribner this weekend. Haze Daze is Saturday.
Activities begin at 2:30 p.m. with a tour of Musbach Museum. There will be entertainment during the event, which continues until 5 p.m.
From 5-8 p.m., there will be plenty of food. The Scribner Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will hold a hamburger feed. Hamburgers, hot dogs and brats are on the menu.
Scribner Bank and Scribner Insurance are hosting a free watermelon feed at the same time.
All of that leads up to the street dance features — appropriately enough — Mystic Haze. The dance is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight. The dance is sponsored by Scribner Bank and the Scribner Area Chamber of Commerce.
