Navigating U.S. 30-275 exit will get trickier

If you’re used to making a left-hand turn off northbound U.S. Highway 275 unto Fremont’s 23rd Street, you’ll be out of luck beginning Monday.

And if you make that right-hand turn off 23rd street onto the southbound lands of U.S. 275, you’ll be in the same boat.

Both of those access lanes will be closed for about four week as construction of a new interchange nears completion.

The Nebraska Department of Roads recommends drivers seek alternate routes.

Drivers can use the interchanges at Morningside Road or Military Avenue.

For those heading north on U.S. 275 who miss those exits, the interchange at Broad Street (the junction with U.S. 77) can be used to come into town.

The 23rd Street interchange is the third - and last - one in the U.S. 275 widening project.

Werner Construction is the contractor on the project.

It is great to see this project get close to completion. But I would have to say that this did seem poorly managed. The train tracks north on the bypass are back to one lane each way again. They cannot seem to get this finished. The hiway northbound under the moringside exit is being worked on again, after they had to repair the bridge last year. The contractor can't seem to ever finish this project. At least not correctly.

I still question why this, the busiest intersection and the one that we wanted an overpass on for over 20 yrs, was the last one finished. Glad to see it about done, but think it should have been done first. Maybe Lazlo's could have stayed open if people from the highway, the only place they advertised, could have found them.
