Major General David C. Morehouse, USAF (Ret.), 73, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Fremont, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, in San Antonio.

He was born June 23, 1935, in Fremont to Joseph F. and LaVerle (Herman) Morehouse. He attended Fremont Public Schools, graduating from Fremont High School in 1953. He earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1957 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. He received his juris doctor degree from Creighton University in Omaha in 1960. After admission to the Nebraska Bar Association, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He served on active duty as an Air Force judge advocate for the next 33 years, retiring as the Judge Advocate General, USAF in 1993. While on active duty, his assignments included Staff Judge Advocate, 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing, Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam; Staff Judge Advocate, 15th Air Base Wing, Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Staff Judge Advocate, Air Force Manpower and Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas; Staff Judge Advocate, Hq. Tactical Air Command, Langley AFB, Va. and Staff Judge Advocate, Strategic Air Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska. In 1988, he was promoted to Major General and appointed Deputy Judge Advocate, and in 1991, was selected to be the Judge Advocate General, USAF. During his time on active duty he graduated from George Washington University Law School, Master of Laws and the National War College.

His military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal (1OLC), Legion of Merit (1 OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), AF Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal (one silver star).

Serving with him throughout his Air Force career was his loving wife, Sally, the former Sarah Kathryn Davis of Omaha. Upon retirement, the Morehouse’s returned to their home in San Antonio, Texas. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony de Padua Church and served there as a lector and eucharistic service minister. An avid golfer, he and Sally were members of Oak Hills Country Club. He also was a member of the board of the Air Force Retired JAG Association, the Judge Advocate General’s School Foundation, and Fisher House, Inc., operating Fisher Houses at Wilford Hall Medical Center.

He was admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Claims Court, U.S. Court of Veteran’s Appeals; and was a member of the State Bars of Texas and Nebraska.

Survivors include: his wife, Sally; two sons, Dr. Joseph D. (and wife, Mary) Morehouse of Duluth, Minn. and Mark D. (and wife, Tammy) Morehouse of Chicago; five grandchildren, Catherine Anne, Matthew Joseph, Sarah Margaret and Meagan Irene Morehouse, all of Duluth, and Carlos Patrick Morehouse of Chicago; and two sisters, Marjorie M. Groszkruger and Gene L. Bahm, both of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren, David, Alan, and Angel Morehouse.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony de Padua Church in San Antonio, Texas, with the Rev. Kevin Shanahan officiating.

The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary being said at 7 p.m., at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio.

Burial with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. at a later date.

I am truly saddened by news of the death of Dave. He was a respected friend of mine, and many, throughout our high school days. He was a fun, intelligent and loyal classmate and teammate. I ask that Sally, and Daves entire family, accept my most sincere expression of sympathy.

I remeber David as a student at FHS.
He was a fine student and good athlete. His family can be very proud of his military record and service to our country.

As a classmate I remember David well and will miss him at the reunion this year.My sympathy to Sally and the family.My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
