AAA Nebraska, in partnership with the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation, will provide free VIN etchings from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at its Fremont office, 2708 E. 23rd Ave. N.
The owner of the vehicle must be present and must present a valid driver’s license and registration.
The entire process takes 10 to 15 minutes. A VIN etching service at an auto glass shop could cost between $25-$40.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, an auto theft occurs approximately every 26 seconds in the United States. Over the course of a year, 1.2 million vehicles are stolen at a cost of approximately $7.6 billion.
