Nelson energizes Democratic delegates

Change is the word of the day at the Nebraska Democratic Party convention being held at Midland Lutheran College this weekend.

U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson brought the delegates to their feet during his speech Saturday morning.

“Change is the word of the day and the word of the future,” Nelson said. “Change is what all of us are looking for in Washington.”

Nelson highlighted the growth of the party during the past two years. Democrats have picked up more than 15,000 registered voters.

“Our party is changing. It’s growing,” he said. “We’ve increased active participation.”

The senator criticized newspaper columnists who questioned whether the party could deliver in November.

“They should be writing over and over again about the energy, the enthusiasm,” he said. “It’s hard to ignore what’s happening in Fremont today and what will happen in November.”

Nelson said Democrats want change.

“We want progress. We want good government,” he said. “The administration seems to want more of the same.”

He was critical of an appropriations bill that would fund the war in Iraq.

“They under fund the war and exceed the appropriations. - Then they think Congress should authorize loans from China to fund it,” he said.

"November is just the preliminary,” Nelson added.. “Because we’re going to put an end to that mismanagement next January when Barack Obama moves into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

Nelson warmed up the delegates with a couple of jokes.

He said everyone is upset about gasoline prices.

“But there is one not of hope: This is all part of the president’s health plan to make us walk more. Unfortunately, it’s working,” Nelson said.

He also said the Washington is being impacted by global warming. Just the other day, he said, a chunk of ice fell off Vice President Dick Cheney.

The Nebraska Democratic Party convention continues through Sunday.

Here we go again CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE
CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE
CHANGE WHAT TO WHAT?
AND
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO
PAY FOR IT?

Honestly, I forgot...their hero has
already on several occassions told us
how the Demcrats will pay for this big
change they are always talking about

INCREASE EVERYONE'S TAXES
BUSINESS TAXES - PERSONAL TAXES
INCREASE TAXES ON YOUR RETIREMENT
FUNDS, ETC..

Democrats mean more taxes on everything.

Only in America...can so few people fool so many people...I simply do not understand why members of the Democratic party want more taxes????

Bottomline..."buying" change is going to be very very expensive to ALL Americans.

At least Democrats are realistic enough to say change will take some tax money, republicans keep saying they are going to cut taxes but by time they get done we are paying more and getting less for it. At least be honest!

Change is not only forecast by Dems., see: Johann's campaign. If Dem's equal tax and spend party, then the GOP has equaled borrow and spend party for the past 8 years...I would rather pay for mismanagement than push it off on the next generation.

Of course the Dems want change. They're not in the White House. Thanks Ben, for the insight.

If Ben Nelosn really wanted change he would resign from office and let some younger guy take over.
That stupid wig he wears is embarrassing.

Is this "change" we can live with??
Lets give terrorists constitutional rights, Obama wants to. Lets not drill for own oil so we can pay more at the pump, Obama wants to. Lets make roughly 5% of the population carry the rest, effectively killing the "American dream", Obama wants to. Converting to socialism would be "change" all right. But it is certainly not new. It has failed everywhere it's been tried.
Be careful what you ask for people, you might not like it.

Have you failed to realize that the GOP and Dems. are one in the same? Both parties are socialistic and represent democrat ideals...Bush was the biggest tax and spend pres. in Am. history! Expanding the cabinet, educational funding (No Child), "faith-based funding" (church funding? Come on!); medicare prescription drug benefits and nation-building? Quit kidding yourself that McCain is any different, in fact, he's a "moderate" GOP-er...Ron Paul was the way to go, and you GOPretenders laughed him off the stage.

McCain and O'Bama are one in the same, as are all main-stream candidates b/c all Am. citizens want entitlements. At least O'Bama doesn't lie about it (off-shore drilling - thanks for help at the pump...in 7 years). GOPretenders should stick to shallow social issues rather than economics - it was much more effective in pulling the wool over on people.

to Bushjr,
1.of course dennis K put forth an attempt to impeach Bush. Its payback for the Rs impeachment of Bill C. We all know Dennis K is a very far left leaning liberal. He knows full well this wont work. Its just PR & he does not have the votes to make it fly.
2. there are far too many things listed in your post to comment on now, but ill touch on a few.
a. Climate change, (global warming) is a scam. the earth's heating & warming is caused by cycles in the Sunspot pattern. I am not saying we should not conserve whenever possible, but man is not responsible for "global warming" for each case I have heard in the media I have heard many replies against it.
b. Bush is not to be blamed for the Katrina mess. there were many more mistakes at the stae & local level. But those leaders were and still are "D"s so they will never be blamed by the media, only Bush. Could things have been handled better? yes, but that is the way it is with any emergency. People need to understand Sometimes Mother nature is stronger then anything Man can do. But bush was certanily NOT crimminal in the Katrinal mess.
3. Congress (INCLUDIND HILLARY) DID vote for war in Iraq.
4. The idea that Bush or his administration planned or let the 9/11 tragedy happen is just for conspiracy thoerists on Coast to Coast AM or internet bloggers and not been proven.
5. Any health care issues by 9/11 responders is not this fault and if anyone should be prosecuted its the Alqueda who did the attack or organized, planned, or supported the logistics of the attack. take care all & have a good day.
BTW bush haters, dont worry in 6 months someone else will be president.

To Brian

1.of course dennis K put forth an attempt to impeach Bush. ""

BushJR: You might be right, But I think you are wrong.

2. there are far too many things listed in your post to comment on now, but ill touch on a few.

BushJR: I know it's a lot to swallow so that why we better just ignore it

a. Climate change, (global warming) is a scam. the earth's heating & warming is caused by cycles in the Sunspot pattern. aI am not saying we should not conserve whenever possible, but man is not responsible for "global warming"...

BushJR: Yes if only a few people lived on Earth we could dump as much trash as we wanted. But since the 1900's the earth's populations has increased to a level that is destroying our Earth as I type this now.

b. Bush is not to be blamed for the Katrina mess. there were many more mistakes at the stae & local level. But those leaders were and still are "D"s so they will never be blamed by the media, only Bush.

BushJR: No I agree the Dems and Reps. Drop the ball on this.. Thanks to Homeland Security for helping out - NOT
Leave that work to NOAA, USArmy Corps., NASA (sat. mapping), local state and city police force

3. Congress (INCLUDIND HILLARY) DID vote for war in Iraq.

BushJr: I agree TOTALLY

4. The idea that Bush or his administration planned or let the 9/11 tragedy happen is just for conspiracy thoerists on Coast to Coast AM or internet bloggers and not been proven.

BushJR: It has not been proven which may never be proven. Thanks to the Spin doctors

5. Any health care issues by 9/11...

BushJR: Single pay health care

BTW bush haters, dont worry in 6 months someone else will be president.

BushJR: it would be great if BushJr was a lame duck pres. for the rest if the year but I doubt it. "There is mounting evidence that the Bush Administration in liaison with Israel and NATO is planning the launching of a nuclear war against Iran, ironically, in retaliation for its nonexistent nuclear weapons program. The US-Israeli military operation is said to be in "an advanced state of readiness"."

Joe Sokolovsky isn't a real person, right? Isn't this some jokester writing purposely outrageous and ignorant letters to the editor just to get people riled up? There couldn't really be someone that narrowminded and backward in this day and age, could there? Well, whoever it is, they are a real hoot!

1. I am not "ignoring" parts of your long post. I work for a living and also a dad, I would love to sit at a comp all day debating my liberal regulars, but i cant. I can make hit & run posts during my lunch hour or such. So I do not have time to debate evrything I see & disagree with.
2. I am NOT denying that tensions are high between Israle, Iran, the US & our NATO allies. But I do not think it will go as far as an attack on Iran just yet. We do not have the strength to pull it off and I think its saber-rattling right now. However, If I am wrong and there is an attack b/f Obama is inaugerated, I WILL admit it in this public forum.
3. To say IRAN's Nuclear weapons is non-excistence is wrong he may not have nuke weapons now, but I belive he will someday. I have heard Iran has met with Norh Korea when they tested missles in the pacific ocean so I would not doubt N-K shared nuclear information wether energy or weapons. The president of Iran has said in speeches that he WILL anniliate Israle someday. It is known he is developing nuclear energy and its a very short jump to weapons grade material from an energy plant like the Fort Calhoon plant just 20-odd miles from Fremont. I am NOT saying he has weapons now, But I will never belive he wont ever have them. Do I want an attack on Iran now?? NO. But I am not privy to intell from the CIA.
As for global warming, I am not against conserving or cleaning up whenever possible the environment. But 2 conditions remain.
A. ALL nations must conform to the same rules if we are going to pass laws on carbon footprints ect. INCLUDING India & China. Otherwise they have an economic competative advantage.
B. All changes must be at a cost we can ALL afford, not just the rich. if the working class man so to speak cannot afford the the changes or threats to his job, then the price is too high. I cannot afford a 30,00 or 40,00$ hybrid car right now and wont for some time no matter how much gas it saves.
c. As for the 9/11 attacks & ensuing conspiracies. Nothing I can say will change your mind. You are going to your grave decades from now beliving Bush jr, did something evil to have the 9/11 attacks. I will belive otherwise untill I see concrete mainstream proof. If somehting comes up during my lifetime, I am man enough to admit I am wrong if it happens. Anyway lunch hour over have a good day.

BushJR, Let's hope we do in fact see "CHANGE" in 2009, change for the better.

For your son sake Brian..

The global (land and ocean) average temperature increase up to 2006 was 0.76 °C compared to pre-industrial. Eleven of the last 12 years (1995 -2006) rank among the 12 warmest years in the instrumental record (since 1850), and 2005 and 1998 were the warmest two years than any year on record.

The rate of global average temperature change has increased from 0.08°C per decade over last 100 years, to 0.13 °C per decade in last 50 years and 0.23°C in last decade.

Good evening

Bushjr,
I have heard just the opposite regarding global warming.
I have heard that overall the earths average temp has rissen just 1 degree in the past 100 years. b. It has NOT warmed in the past 5-10 years and in fact cooled slightly in the past year or two.
As for national health care, it sounds good on paper but not not in action. Health care will declind in quality when bearucrats riding desks take over doctors in controlling health care decisions. It sounds great that is one gets sick or injured to go to dr or er & get healed with no bill. But look at the VA scandal a couple of years ago. Thats government health care future.
2. if one lets the gov pay for all health care, they controll ALL health care decidsions. If one goes behind the gov and makes a decision between dr & patient with their own money, it will be considered illegal under Hillary's plan of 93. You are entitled to your decision (s) regarding politics, but I dont fell Obama is the great Messiah the media & "D" s are making him out to be. have a good day.

Regarding health care... Brian, you stated that if the government pays for health care it controls everything. Sounds like the insurance companies of today. They make the decisions on what procedures and treatments you can have, or what they will pay for, and most people cant afford the treatments with out insurance companies paying for them.
I do not believe government controlled health care is the solution, but I also believe there should be some controls by government on the insurance companies. They make life and death decisions daily based on the mighty dollar. I don't have an answer for health care, but I do know something needs to change so people are treated like people and can afford health care. Health care should not be only available to the wealthy.

Joseph... At least the dems will tax Americans to pay their own bills, not borrow the money from China and hope our children can pay it back in 20 yrs or so. It is just good business to pay your own bills, not let another country "own" us.

I read where the Danes (you know, people from Denmark) are the happiest in the world. Since we're talking about change, maybe we should follow their lead. Just some thoughts for our next prez:

Smoking is increasingly restricted and "non-trendy".
Their chewing tobacco produces less spittle. They don't use "Copenhagen" as we know it in the states.
16 is the legal drinking age.
Most Fast-food outlets sell beer.
Only the military can have guns.
No NASCAR.
No NBA.
No country music.
They're really, really, socialist.
Their military doesn't invade other countries and their expense is only 1.3% of GDP.

Just some thoughts.

Bobo - I've oftentimes wondered about how European countries can "afford" to live such extremely happy lifestyles. I've come to the conclusion it is b/c the US is subsidizing their lifestyle - I mean, no military? Great, so long as the US (or somebody) is defeating Germany on your shores, minimizing nuclear powers abroad and taking the brunt of terrorist activities. Europe (sans Britain) is all too happy to push their global responsibility off on someone else. BTW: US only spends 4% of GDP vs. Denmark's 1.3%.

Also, minimal private enterprise = stagnant economy. If the most glamourous job in a country is "diplomat" and involves gov. clearance, then your economy has problems. Europe is a pancake society vs. the US' pyramid...whatever paradigm you prefer.

Joe:
I do not understand the whole Democrats are the root of evil and all our problems. The tax thing you sprouted off about, did you forget papa Bush's "Read my lips, no new taxes" and the first thing in office he raised taxes on low to middle income people while giving tax breaks to the rich. Dem or Rep, politicians are all alike as far as taxes go, they will raise them given the chance and if they don'e the Senate will. Why not just vote for the best person? Are you so narrow minded in your thinking that a person is only judged by his/hers political affliation?

Bobo, you didnt mention that in Denmark they also get a paid college education and national health care. The downfall is they pay about 55% of income in taxes. If you dont mind giving the government your money to spend for you it is all good. Looks like their government might know better how to spend their money anyway.

More of the same... I wish he was a lame duck pres.

"There are four major reasons impelling Bush and Cheney to take this new military action in the waning months of their disastrous terms of office.

1. Oil. To keep control of Iraqi oil with Exxon, Chevron, and other major western oil companies, a major purpose of their invasion of Iraq, now forced on the Iraqi government they created.

2. Permanent U.S. Military Bases in Iraq. With Iran retaliating, the U.S. military presence and large diplomatic/economic mission in Baghdad will be assorted to protect U.S. interests in Iraq, its oil, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.

3. The Presidential Election. The best chance Senator McCain has to win the November elections is a major escalation in the war on terrorism, the terrorist threat becoming the greatest concern of voters in the November elections. Striking against Iran's nuclear sites in September could accomplish this. McCain's grandfather and father, both full Admirals, the first and only father-son to attain that rank, guided McCain to the Naval Academy and military career, backing for Rear Admiral, before political ambition diverted his career track to the rank of Commander-in-Chief. Obama has no military experience.

4. Bush's legacy. Bush is faced with a failed Presidency. He needs for however short a time to appear as the president who prevented a member of the "axis of evil," from obtaining nuclear weapons, as he proclaimed before. His celebration of some agreement with North Korea is designed to avoid recognition of the fact that it acquired and possesses nuclear weapons on his watch - and that leaves Iran alone on the firing line"

LSB,
I DO agree that our healthcare system needs fixing, but should be kept in private hands, not a socialized national plan. Other nations that have it mainly Canada & europe, while its free, is poor in quality compared to the US. As for college two things, 1. With child support and other divorce obligations coming out of my monthly salary (like any divorced dad-or most of them) i cannot afford a 55% income tax rate to pay for a national college plan. 2. Plus tack on more for the national health care plan that the "d"s are going to try to push through when obama is pres. My youngest child is under 10 so child support payments wont go away any time soon obviously. I can roll with life's budgetary punches now as they are, but a huge tax increase to pay for free college nation wide & healthcare at the same level and I am toast.
Bushjr,
I do agree tensions are high with IRan and have been for sometime, I still feel we will not attack Iran b/f the end of the year. Both of you have a good day
