Thomas R. Mooney, 56, of Fremont died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at his home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1952, in Superior to Peter “Al” Mooney and Mary Sullivan Mooney and moved to Fremont as a child, attending Fremont Schools and graduating from Bergan High School in 1970. He graduated from Midland Lutheran College in 1974. Tom married Phylis Ebel on Dec. 27, 1974, in Fremont. He had been involved in the insurance industry for 24 years and owned and operated Mooney Insurance Agency with his wife.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was past president of the Bergan Booster Club and active in the Y’s Men’s Club and the Nighthawk baseball program.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Paul Mooney (and wife, Nicole) of Fremont; three sisters, Mary Osterloh (and husband, Tom) of Fremont, Kathy Christensen (and husband, Tom) of Lincoln and Marilyn Houfek (and husband, Steve) of Cedar Bluffs; and two brothers, James Mooney (and wife, Su) of Denver and Patrick Mooney (and wife, Marlyn) of Bennington.
The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont with the Revs. Owen Korte and Matthew Vanderwalle officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
