Thomas R. Mooney, 56, of Fremont died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at his home.

He was born Aug. 6, 1952, in Superior to Peter “Al” Mooney and Mary Sullivan Mooney and moved to Fremont as a child, attending Fremont Schools and graduating from Bergan High School in 1970. He graduated from Midland Lutheran College in 1974. Tom married Phylis Ebel on Dec. 27, 1974, in Fremont. He had been involved in the insurance industry for 24 years and owned and operated Mooney Insurance Agency with his wife.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was past president of the Bergan Booster Club and active in the Y’s Men’s Club and the Nighthawk baseball program.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Paul Mooney (and wife, Nicole) of Fremont; three sisters, Mary Osterloh (and husband, Tom) of Fremont, Kathy Christensen (and husband, Tom) of Lincoln and Marilyn Houfek (and husband, Steve) of Cedar Bluffs; and two brothers, James Mooney (and wife, Su) of Denver and Patrick Mooney (and wife, Marlyn) of Bennington.

The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont with the Revs. Owen Korte and Matthew Vanderwalle officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Tom "MOON" will be sorely missed. We wish to pass our sympathy to Phyllis, Paul and all his family. Tom is a good man who was a great assest to all that knew him. I especially enjoyed working with Tom as Bergan Booster president. He had the best interest of all at heart. Tom fought a courageous fight with cancer and never once spoke a negative word. Truly an inspiration for all of us to live by

Sorry to hear of Tom's passing. I guess it's been some 45 years since we first me and EVERY time I ever spoke with Tom, we shared a laugh.

I always enjoyed his sense of humor as well as his more serious side. He was one of those people who added to your day whenever you saw him.

Phylis and family,
I was saddened to hear of Toms passing and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tom and I worked together at ENCOR before he got into the insurance field and he was always a rock. Nothing seemed to get him down, he was always positive and was alway a pleasure to be around.

He truly will be missed.

To Phyllis, Paul and family, I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you. My parents Nickie and Dennis Page were both very fond of the many get togethers and school functions attended, and I don't ever remember Tom not being at a football game, or any other activiy or sporting event. He will be trully missed by all.
