Valburga Pabian

The funeral for Valburga A. “Val” Pabian, 84, of North Bend will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.

She died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at Birchwood Manor in North Bend.

She was born June 21, 1924, in rural Dodge to Paul and Magdalena (Arps) Chudomelka. She moved to Fremont from Dodge at age 14. She was a 1942 graduate of Fremont High School. She worked at Hormel Foods Corporation in Fremont for several years. She moved to Morse Bluff in 1951 and then to North Bend in 1969. She worked at Birchwood Manor in North Bend for 34 years.

Val Chudomelka married Frank Farmer on May 5, 1944. He died Dec. 7, 1947. She then married Victor C. Pabian on Jan. 23, 1951, at Cedar Hill. Victor died Nov. 27, 1985.

She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society at North Bend. She also was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 of Morse Bluff.

Survivors include: three sons, Mike (and wife, Pam) Farmer of Linwood, Donald (and wife, Marlene) Pabian of North Bend and Thomas (and wife, Jackie) Pabian of Berthold, N.D.; four daughters, Patricia (and husband, Denny) Houska of Kearney, Vicki (and husband, Tom) Foltz and Roz (and husband, Tom) Hamilton, all of North Bend, and Laura Dressel of Creston, British Columbia, Canada; three sisters, Goldie (and husband, Norman) Holoubek of Sacramento, Calif., Agnes Russell of Yuma, Ariz., and Magdalen Sixta of Fremont; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, two sons-in-law and a grandson.

The Rev. Donald Cleary will officiate Wednesday’s service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. A vigil service/rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Memorials have been established to St. Charles Catholic Church, North Bend Library’s New Building Fund and the North Bend Rescue Squad.

Hi guys, just wanted to say how sorry I am about Val. she was such a neat lady.The best neighbor mom could have had at the Estates. I'll won't forget her smile and laugh. Doesn't make any difference how long we have our mom's it's still tough to say goodbye..take care..

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Your mom will always hold a special place in our hearts, she was so nice to us. I think of her each time I wash a load of laundry (we have her old washer), which thankfully, around here is quite often! She was a wonderful person who will be missed by many. Thinking of you.
