LETTER: Remarks were upsetting to me

After reading the article in Saturday’s Trib, I was upset with Mr. Ekeler’s remark at the end of the article.

I quote, "It is only a small percentage of the people being very vocal." As an employer of his own business and having Hispanics working for him, I understand why he says the thing he does. Look and see who is on the task force. Every one that voted no, Hormel and other employers of Hispanics.

And the $17,000 cost is a one time thing. That is small amount to what goes out of or costing our city.

At 71 I have never seen a task force accomplish anything and that even goes as far as our government. I believe and many others believe it is to pacify the public for what they did at the council meeting.

What is so wrong about getting rid of people that have broken our laws. Maybe if housing and jobs stop being there for them, they will get out and go home. It is a known fact that is what is happening in Oklahoma. Maybe the general public is more informed than Mr. Ekeler gives us credit for.

Andy Schnatz----You hit the nail right on the head. It is like hiring a fox to guard the hen house. We the people most likely know more about this subject than Mr. Ekeler is trying to jam down our throats.

I have no problem with what you're saying in general. What I do take issue with is your use of the word "Hispanic" to imply undocumented immigrant.

This is the reason why so many people say this is a racial issue vs. an issue of the Federal government enforcing the laws and what we have the right to do if they don't enforce those laws.

I too was annoyed with Mr Ekelers comment. He seems to think that only a small few care. Look at how many people came out to the meeting at the high school, how many signed Carl's petition and how many plan to sign the one for general election ballot. Seems to me those quiet folks are finally getting vocal. No wonder they do not beleive in the task force. It seems Mr Ekeler only cares about the opinions of those on the task force or the big companies they are protecting. Including his own. Wake up and smell the coffee Bill, the people are not happy and they are letting you know!!

I'm a former Fremont resident who now lives in a large urban community of about 2 million residents in another part of the country. I have read about this issue in my local newspapers and have seen stories about this issue on the local evening news and, to be honest, it really makes Fremont look bad. They (the general population outside of Fremont)are laughing at you for what you are all trying to do. I hope that you are all proud of the negative outlook that you have stamped on your town. As for me, I'm really glad that people like you weren't around when my family moved to this country from Europe in the 1930's.

I guess you are also saying the news media and our Government is racis. They are the ones also stateing and showing Mexicans climing over the wall. The news saying all the deaths and thefts that are done by illegal mexicans. The raids at the meat packing houses rounding up illegal HISPANIC's. And for your infomation HISPANIC DOES NOT MEAN mexican. Maybe you are the one that is racies

How can Andy understand anything about what Mr. Ekeler does? I'm only assuming Andy has never owned his own business or done any hiring of employees to work at his business. All Andy does is criticize the task force, the police chief, the city council and the government. He needs to put his money where his mouth his and start a petition drive to become a write-in candidate. He will never do that though because then he will have to be a man of action instead of words and condemnation. And he is, simply, not up to the task. Never will be.

The thing that I hate about Americans, is that they think that freedom is exclusively theirs. The men who fought in the revolutionary war (who were all guilty of treason) did not die so that white Europeans could be free, but that "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."

Quite frankly the racism that I see in Fremont make me ashamed that I am giving my life to defend YOUR freedom.

It shows how much you know.I lived in South Africa for a few years and had my own busness. My entire crew was black. I took 10% of the profet and paid the rest to my workers. Out of my earnings came Materal, transportion to and from jobs, my men came first because THEY made the company not me.
And runing for any office, there is tooo much dirt and lieing to be for me
