After a nearly two-year process, Metropolitan Community College is the first Nebraska college to receive full accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for its Early Childhood Education program.
Metro is among 51 programs in the nation with such accreditation; the status is effective for the college’s associate of applied science in early childhood education for seven years with no conditions attached for additional review during that time. This accreditation system opened to applicants in April 2006 and includes an eligibility review, submission of program self-study report and a peer review site visit prior to the accreditation decision.
Early Childhood Education curriculum has been offered at Metro since the College’s inception in 1974. The college offers an early childhood education assistant certificate in addition to the associate degree.
