Liberty, a Southern Gospel quartet, is coming back to Fremont.
The group will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene, 960 N. Johnson Road. While there is no admission charge, a “love offering” will be taken in support of the group’s ministry.
Liberty is a full-time concert ministry based on the West Coast. Members are Doran Ritchey, baritone and pianist; Royce Mitchell, bass; Keith Waggoner, tenor; and Dan Gilbert, lead.
Each year, the group has approximately 200 performances for church services, conventions, nursing homes, prisons and other ministries. Members travel an average of 50,000 to 70,000 miles a year.
This isn’t the first time the group has been in Fremont.
Last May it appeared for a concert. It also performed with Cross Beams about a year ago. Both concerts took place at the Church of the Nazarene.
“Liberty is one of the few groups while in concert (that) exceeds the sound quality of their recordings,” said Gerald Wolfe of Greater Vision. “Their recordings are done well, but you cannot fully capture the worship experience they present to the Lord. We enjoy the times we’ve been able to minister together with Liberty.”
Mitchell is one of the founding members of Liberty. He was serving as music minister in Boise, Idaho, when he and three laymen from the church organized the quartet. The group began the traveling concert ministry in 1996.
Waggoner was born and raised in Indiana. He was offered the position of tenor in 2006. He has always been an avid fan and promoter of Southern gospel music.
Gilbert joined Liberty in December 2003. Prior to joining the group, he was a member of various singing groups with the most record being Faithful Men.
Ritchey became a member of Liberty in March 2004. He met the group at his church in October 2003. After playing the piano for them at that concert, he began accompanying for the group when it was ministering close to his home.
