Court: Fremonter competent to stand trial for assault

A Fremont man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her with a knife was found competent to stand trial Monday in Dodge County District Court.

Jesse Silvey, 41, of Fremont is charged with use of a weapon to commit a felony, a Class III felony; making terroristic threats, a Class IV felony; domestic assault, a Class I misdemeanor; and criminal mischief and disturbing the peace, Class III misdemeanors.

Silvey is accused of getting into a fight with his girlfriend June 2, damaging her car and then threatening her with a knife.

A psychological evaluation performed by Dr. Y. Scott Moore determined Silvey was competent to stand trial and to assist in his own defense.

Silvey pleaded innocent to the charges against him. A Sept. 26 deadline was set for pretrial motions and further hearing was set for Sept. 29.

Other cases heard Monday included:

* Andrew R. Christensen, 19, of Fremont had his arraignment continued until Sept. 29 so he could apply to drug court. He is charged with theft by shoplifting-third offense, a Class IV felony, and first-degree criminal trespass, a Class I misdemeanor.

* Thomas Hansen, 31, of Omaha had his arraignment for violating the sex offender registry-subsequent offense, a Class III felony, continued until Oct. 20.

* Richard King, 48, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a Class IV felony. In exchange for his plea, charges of no proof of insurance, a Class II misdemeanor; no proof of registration and no operator’s license, Class III misdemeanors; and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction, were dismissed. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Oct. 20.

* James L. Taylor, 38, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance-Valium, a Class IV felony. In exchange for his plea, charges of false reporting, a Class I misdemeanor, and a habitual criminal enhancement were dismissed. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Oct. 20.

* Robyn L. Voegler, 49, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance-alprazolam, a Class IV felony. In exchange for her plea, charges of possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a Class IV felony, and possession of marijuana-less than an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia, infractions, were dismissed. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Oct. 27.
