What a busy weekend

School pride will be abundant this weekend as Fremont Bergan and Midland Lutheran College celebrate homecoming.

Bergan’s homecoming football game features a battle of the Knights in a showdown with Oakland-Craig. Kickoff is set for 7 tonight at Memorial Field.

Bergan’s homecoming royalty will be crowned at 8:30 p.m. Saturday during the school’s homecoming dance at St. Patrick’s Auditorium.

Midland will celebrate homecoming with a number of activities -- marking a busy weekend in the Fremont area.

The Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is set for 6:30 tonight in the dining hall. Dale Sarratt, Larry Holmes, Bob Denton, Jennifer Houchin Wragge and Chris Allen will be inducted.

The Student Talent Show will begin at 8 tonight in Clemmons Hall. The event also will include a parent/student look-alike contest and coronation of king and queen, followed by a pep rally.

Saturday’s festivities include a pre-game party and carnival from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the MLC campus green. The family-oriented event will feature balloon artist Poppin’ Penelope, a caricaturist, airbrush tattoos, Bob Olsen’s Dixieland Band, the MLC pep band, cotton candy, popcorn and games.

The Midland football team will play Dakota Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Field.

A post game party will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 910 N. Lincoln Ave. Admission and snacks will be free. Everyone is welcome to the event sponsored by the Midland Alumni Association.

Here’s a look at other events planned for this weekend:

Music

* Fremont’s Christensen Field will host the 4th annual Old Time Rural Music Gathering. The three-day festival is set for 6-11 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Daily admission is $13 or $11 for seniors over age 70. Three-day passes will be sold for $30.

* The Omaha Chamber Singers will present a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. A donation of $10 is suggested.

* Tin Lizzy Tavern in Fremont will feature live music by Gladys Kravitz Band from 9 p.m. to close Saturday.

* Chaz Singer headlines Acoustic Sunday from 8-10 p.m. Saturday at Tin Lizzy.

Food

* St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church will have its annual turkey dinner from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Hooper Auditorium. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, a salad bar, rolls and pie. There also will be a raffle drawing, silent auction and musical entertainment. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Tickets may be purchased in advance from parishioners or at the door the day of the dinner. Carry-outs are available from 4-6:30 p.m. by calling Hooper Auditorium at 654-3812.

* A roast beef dinner and bazaar will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Church in Colon. An auction will begin at 2 p.m. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 5-10 and free for children 4 and under. Carry-outs are available.

Fall festival

* Arlington Community Church’s fall festival is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Arlington City Park. A community worship service will begin at 10 a.m. and an arts and craft fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a car show and kids games from noon to 3 p.m. The festival also will include food stands, live music, bingo, raffles, inflatables and homemade pies.

Crafts

* A craft show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Uehling Auditorium. Admission is free.

* Alegent Health Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a hobby and craft market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ballroom in Schuyler. The event also will include a lunch stand, raffle and morning bake sale.
