Michael J. Wachsmuth Jr., 23, of Garrison, Minn., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born July 16, 1985, in California. He lived in Omaha from age 2 to 11. He was a 2004 graduate of Brainerd High School in Brainerd, Minn. He was a Garrison Volunteer Firefighter and was a launch pilot for Garrison Sports and the Blue Goose. He volunteered as an elementary school wrestling coach and referee at Brainerd.
Survivors include: his wife, Kayla Weber of Garrison; his mother, Laura Steinbach of Wahkon, Minn.; his father, Michael Wachsmuth Sr. of Aitkin, Minn.; a brother, Andrew Wachsmuth of Wahkon; two sisters, Krista Wachsmuth of La Vista and April Wachsmuth of Wahkon; and grandparents, Shirly Sloat of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Marvin and Yvonne Steinbach of Morse Bluff.
A firefighter’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery near Morse Bluff. The Rev. Don Cleary of St. Charles Catholic Church at North Bend will officiate. There is no visitation.
