Performance set for Dana, MLC

Thursday, Nov 20, 2008 - 11:01:35 am CST

Dana College Theater will present “It Is No Desert” by Dan Stroeh, the winner of the 2001 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Michael Kanin National Student Playwriting Award.

This one-man play is the senior acting project of Thomas Gjere. The play is an account of the author’s struggle to cope with neurofibromatosis, a progressively debilitating disease for which there is no permanent cure, and for which the medicine is frequently worse than the disease.

The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday in the Lauritzen Theater on the Dana College campus. Admission is free and the show is open to the public.

There will be an additional performance at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Kimmel Theater on the Midland Lutheran College campus.

Gjere has been a mainstay on the Dana College stage for the past three years, taking major roles in both musicals and serious drama. He also was seen at the Omaha Community Playhouse in “Over the Tavern” in 2005.
