Woman pleads no contest to child abuse

A Fremont woman accused of letting her two young children wander the streets pleaded Tuesday in Dodge County Court.

Kristina Matzen, 24, of Fremont pleaded no contest to child abuse, a Class I misdemeanor.

She is accused on Aug. 19 of letting a 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy play unattended by a van in front of her home. She also is accused of not answering the door when officers attempted to contact her.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Jan. 6.

Other cases heard Tuesday in Dodge County Court included (unless otherwise noted, an additional $44 in court costs is added to fines and jail sentences):

* Michael Allen, 21, of Fremont pleaded guilty to theft by shoplifting-second offense, a Class I misdemeanor. He was sentenced to seven days in jail.

* Roger Anderson, 43, of Coleridge pleaded guilty to driving under suspension, a Class III misdemeanor. Sentencing was set for Jan. 27.

* A Dec. 23 preliminary hearing was set for Timothy Androy, 22, of Fremont. He is charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance-marijuana, Class III felonies. A request to reduce his bond from 10 percent of $30,000 was denied.

* Maria Baughman, 25, of Omaha pleaded guilty to no proof of insurance, a Class II misdemeanor, and open container, an infraction. She was fined $100.

* Anthony Brown, 18, of Fremont pleaded guilty to reckless driving, Class III misdemeanor. He was fined $100.

* Janice Brown, 38, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana-less than an ounce, an infraction. She was fined $300.

* Eric Capron, 32, of Malmo pleaded guilty to false reporting, a Class I misdemeanor. He was sentenced to four days in jail.

* Trinidad Chapa, 51, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana-less than an ounce. He was fined $300.

* Carl Christensen, 22 of Omaha was sentenced to 12 months of probation for obstructing a peace officer, a Class I misdemeanor.

* Pedro Delarosa, 25, of Fremont admitted to violating his probation for DUI-first offense. His probation was extended by six months.

* A Jan. 30 bench trial was set for Steve Depperman, 38, of Fremont. He is charged with DUI-first offense.

* Amy Dishman, 19, of Fremont pleaded guilty to minor in possession, a Class III misdemeanor. She was fined $250.

* Alicia Dishong, 20, of Falls City pleaded guilty to writing an insufficient funds check, a Class II misdemeanor. She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $137 in restitution.

* Steven Dunn, 23, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension. He was fined $75.

* Michael Duran, 19, of Fremont pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana-less than an ounce. He was fined $300.

* David Escamilla, 63, of Fremont pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense. He was sentenced to seven days in jail and fined $400. His driver’s license also was revoked for six months.

* Michael Evans, 36, of Fremont was sentenced to

90 days in jail followed by

18 months of intense supervised probation for domestic assault, a Class I misdemeanor. As part of his probation he must complete the men’s batterers program and anger management counseling.

* Sheri Ford, 48, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension. Sentencing was set for Jan. 6.

* Clifton Goff, 23, of Linwood was sentenced to

48 hours in jail, one year of probation and fined $250 for third-degree assault by mutual contact, a Class II misdemeanor.

* Fortino Gonzalez, 39, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension. He was fined $150 and his driver’s license was suspended for one year.

* Amanda Osborn was appointed to represent Debra Juelfs, 54, of Fremont and arraignment was continued until Dec. 23. Juelfs is charged with DUI-second offense and driving left of center, an infraction.

* Sean Hageman, 18, of Fremont pleaded no contest to criminal mischief, a Class II misdemeanor. He was fined $500 and ordered to pay $500 in restitution.

* Kory Herskind, 18, of Omaha pleaded guilty to minor in possession. He was fined $250.

* Jason Hinkle, 25, of Fremont was sentenced to one year of probation for theft by shoplifting-second offense, a Class I misdemeanor.

* Richard Houpt, 20, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension and violating a traffic signal, an infraction. Sentencing was set for Jan. 9.

* Toni Hull, 21, of Fremont pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense. She was sentenced to six months of probation and fined $400. As part of her probation, she must attend a defensive driving class, a victim’s impact panel and a chemical education class. She also must perform 120 hours of community service and her driver’s license was revoked for 60 days.

* Michael Ireland, 34, of Fremont pleaded guilty to reckless driving. He was fined $200.

* Scott Jernigan, 40, of Scribner pleaded no contest to flight to avoid arrest, a Class I misdemeanor. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Jan. 6.

* Daylee Johnson, 20, of Fremont pleaded guilty to minor in possession. She was fined $250.

* Johnny Jones, 18, of Fremont pleaded no contest to driving under suspension, a Class III misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, fined $100 for that charge and charges of attempt of a Class IIIA felony, a Class I misdemeanor; careless driving, an infraction; and a second driving under suspension. His driver’s license also was revoked for one year.

* Sabrina King, 20, of Fremont pleaded guilty to theft by shoplifting, a Class II misdemeanor. She was fined $150.

* Emily Kopejtka, 18, of Fremont pleaded guilty to no proof of insurance. She was fined $75.

* Anton Kracl, 71, of Rogers pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense. A chemical evaluation was ordered and sentencing set for Jan. 13.

* Odin Lamson, 18, of Fremont pleaded no contest to theft by shoplifting, a Class II misdemeanor. He was fined $150.

* Edwin Lango, 18, of Fremont was sentenced to one year of probation for failure to stop after a property damage accident, a Class II misdemeanor. He also was ordered to pay $3,168 in restitution.

* Heather Martinez, 31, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension. Sentencing was set for Jan. 6.

* Charles Maupin, 65, of Fremont pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense greater than .15 percent blood alcohol content. A chemical evaluation was ordered and sentencing set for Feb. 10.

* Derek McCauley, 29, of Fremont was sentenced to 30 days in jail, one year of probation and ordered to pay $608 in restitution for criminal mischief, a Class I misdemeanor. As part of his probation he must take a moral recognition therapy and proper decision making classes.

* Michael McGill, 19, of Omaha pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, six months of probation and fined $400. As part of his probation, he must attend a defensive driving class, a victim’s impact panel and a chemical education class. He also must perform 60 hours of community service and his driver’s license was revoked for 60 days.

* Marissa Miller, 18, of Fremont pleaded guilty to minor in possession and zero tolerance, an infraction. She was fined $325 and her driver’s license was impounded for seven days.

* Troy Miller, 33, of Fremont was fined $150 for no proof of insurance and driving under suspension.

* Brad Nick was appointed to represent Ryan Parsons, 20, of Fremont and arraignment on a motion to revoke his probation was continued until Dec. 9. Parsons is on probation for resisting arrest, a Class I misdemeanor, and minor in possession, a Class III misdemeanor.

* Dylan Patterson, 18, of Fremont pleaded guilty to minor in possession. He was fined $350.

* A Jan. 13 preliminary hearing was set for Christopher Prochaska, 21, of Fremont. He is charged with use of a weapon to commit a felony, a Class II felony; making terroristic threats, a Class IV felony; and disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct, Class III misdemeanors.

* Lisa Read, 38, of North Bend pleaded guilty to writing an insufficient funds check, a Class II misdemeanor. She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $207 in restitution.

* Rikki Rhoads, 42, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving under suspension. He was fined $75.

* Edgar Romero, 24, of Fremont was fined $275 and his driver’s license was revoked for one year for driving during revocation and no proof of insurance, Class II misdemeanors.

* Shawn Root, 18, of Fremont pleaded guilty to driving during revocation. He was fined $200 and his driver’s license was revoked for one year.

* Rebecca Runninghawk, 50, of Fremont pleaded guilty to two counts of theft by shoplifting-second offense, Class I misdemeanors. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Jan. 6.

* A Jan. 15 hearing on a motion to suppress evidence was set for Christina Saeger, 19, of Fremont. She is charged with perjury, a Class I misdemeanor.

* Bryan Meismer was appointed to represent Andrew Schroeder, 23, of Fremont and arraignment was continued until Dec. 23. Schroeder is charged with DUI-second offense greater than .15 percent blood alcohol content, a Class I misdemeanor.

* Brad Holtorf was appointed to represent Kerry Schrunk, 27, of Omaha and arraignment was continued until Dec. 23. She is charged with DUI-second offense greater than .15 percent blood alcohol content and no proof of insurance.

* Tremayne Scott, 29, of Ithaca pleaded to DUI-first offense. He was sentenced to seven days and fined $400.

* Sarah Siers, 21, of Fremont pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a Class III misdemeanor. She was fined $100.

* A Dec. 9 preliminary hearing was set for Casey Stewart, 22, of Fremont. He is charged with third-degree assault of a peace officer, a Class IIIA felony.

* A Jan. 23 bench trial was set for Chad Taylor, 37, of Nebraska City. He is charged with DUI-first offense.

* Mark Ugland, 38, of Omaha pleaded guilty to DUI-first offense. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, six months of probation and fined $400. As part of his probation, he must attend a defensive driving class, a victim’s impact panel and a chemical education class. He also must perform 60 hours of community service and his driver’s license was revoked for 60 days. An ignition interlock device was approved.

* Bench warrants for failure to appear were ordered for: Kayla Ewing, 19, and Michael Fox, 33, both of Fremont; and Jeffrey Oreskovich, 25, of Prague.
