Dorothy G. Eaton, 68, of Columbus died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Columbus Community Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Cumberland, Md., to William David and Wilma Grace (Schaefer) Newberrey. She graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Md. She later graduated from Central Community College in Columbus and passed her CPA exam. She lived in Maryland until moving to Morse Bluff in 1958. She also lived at Fremont and the North Bend area until returning to Maryland for five years. She moved back to Nebraska and lived in the Schuyler area until 1990 when she moved to Omaha. She worked for the city of Omaha for about eight years and for several CPA firms in Omaha and Fremont. She ran Eaton Tax Service since 1971. In 2004, she moved to Columbus.
She married Benjamin F. Eaton on Nov. 24, 1957, in Westminster, Md. He died Oct. 28, 2005.
She was a charter member of FOE Auxiliary Aerie 3568 at Schuyler and a member of Order of the Eastern Star at Columbus and Daughters of The Nile at Omaha. She was a former member of the American Business Women’s Association and Toastmasters in Omaha and served in several offices and was a member of Association of Government Accountants. She was a member of Volunteers Intervening for Equity conservatorship program and Senior Health Insurance Information Program. She was a certified public accountant and a certified government financial manager.
Survivors include: four sons, Ben Eaton Jr. of Lincoln, Richard (and wife, Melveen) Eaton and Martin (and wife, Diane) Eaton, all of Columbus, and Gary (and wife, Tina) Eaton of Schuyler; a daughter, Cindy (Mrs. Orlando) Stevenson of Columbus; three sisters, Carole Hofmeister of Abingdon, Md., Wilma (Mrs. Bruce) Lippy and Kay (Mrs. Sam) Vetri, all of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, two infant grandsons and a great-grandson.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with Darrell Buck and the Rev. Celeste Norman officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
