A Plattsmouth man remains in the Dodge County Jail today after being stopped in Fremont early Saturday morning.
At 1:17 a.m. Saturday, Brandon Franklin, 24, was clocked speeding on
U.S. Highway 30 about four miles east of North Bend by a Dodge County Sheriff’s Office deputy, but when the deputy tried to pull him over, Franklin sped off, said Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen.
The sheriff’s report stated Franklin drove a 1997 Dodge Caravan that was reported stolen from Columbus at speeds between
70 and 90 mph.
Deputies laid a stop stick just south of County Road 20 1/4, but Franklin drove through the spikes, which Hespen said may have flattened three tires on the van.
Franklin came into Fremont on West 23rd Street before turning south on Airport Road to Linden Avenue. Hespen said he was stopped at the corner of Ninth and Michael streets.
Franklin was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property, flight to avoid arrest, driving under the influence, refusal to commit to a breath test, reckless driving and the initial speed violation, the sheriff said.
Fremont Police Department officers assisted with stop sticks at other locations and at the scene of the arrest.
