From Tiny Tots and Kinder Tots to Swingers, about 200 children are enjoying the summer at Fremont parks.
The Fremont Park and Recreation Department, in addition to running baseball and softball leagues, has organized activities at various parks throughout the city.
Those enrolled in the programs enjoy such events as Playground Champs, Wacky Relays, water fun, bowling, swimming and even trips to Henry Doorly Zoo and the Omaha Royals.
One of the highlights of the summer is the annual pet show, which will be held July 12 at Christensen Field in the main arena.
“(Parents) love the activities,” said John Schmitz, Parks and Rec director. “We offer a diversity of activities so that the kids are always doing something different.”
On Wednesday, children got up close to some animals at Davenport Park.
Parks and Rec hires many temporary workers to help with the programs.
“(Leaders) are college age or older,” Schmitz said. “They are people that are truly interested in what they are doing,”
The parks program runs through
July 31.
