Lyle Gene Echtenkamp, 75, of Humboldt, Tenn., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Arlington to John William and Ellnora Lund Echtenkamp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had made his home in Humboldt for the past 34 years, but had spent the last 10 winters in the mild climate of Florida. He was a retired manufacturing engineer for Emerson Electric Company.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he was very active in church activities over the years.

Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn Echtenkamp of Humboldt, to whom he was married on June 26, 1955; three sons, Wade Echtenkamp (and wife, Debra) of Hernando, Miss., Todd Echtenkamp (and wife, Leann) of Bartlett, Tenn., and Eric Echtenkamp (and wife, Genia) of Humboldt; two brothers, Alan Echtenkamp (and wife, Barbara) of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Harlan Echtenkamp (and wife, Wilma) of Weston, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Echtenkamp and Mary Lou Echtenkamp, both of Fremont; a brother-in-law, Obert Laaker of Fremont; and seven grandchildren, Laura and Caitlin Echtenkamp of Memphis, Tenn., Hannah Echtenkamp of Jackson, Tenn., Riley and Reagan Echtenkamp of Humboldt and Andrew and Anna Grace Echtenkamp of Bartlett, Tenn.

Pallbearers are Audrey Gibson, Joe Modena, Don Frey, Wade Echtenkamp, Todd Echtenkamp and Eric Echtenkamp.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Duzek, Phil Taylor, Rex Schmeler, Dan Somers and Wendell Colyer.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Jackson with the Rev. Phillip Schmidt and Dr. Gary Osborne officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt.

Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home in Jackson, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
