LETTER: We are a country of laws

By Jerry A. Hart/Fremont
Friday, Jul 03, 2009 - 10:46:20 am CDT

It’s amazing that some people are offended by citizens trying to rid Fremont of illegal aliens. These people need to be reminded that the United States is a country of laws which include immigration laws and these laws exist for a reason. As a citizen of this country, it is our duty to obey its laws and to defend it against all enemies. It is a violation of federal law to enter this country illegally. That is why people that do so are called "illegal aliens." Contrary to what Kristin Ostrom professes, these people are judged on their lack of legal status, not on what they look like.

Groups such as Appleseed, ACLU and Home is Nebraska Fremont and their supporters would have us believe that there is no difference between legal immigrants and illegal aliens. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is a violation of federal law to enter this country illegally. It is also a federal felony to aid and abet an illegal alien.

People coming into this country illegally are invading America and destroying it in the process. They steal from American taxpayers, theft that cost American citizens tens of billions of dollars every year. They are enemies of the United States and enemies of its citizens and should be treated accordingly.

Maybe people like Diana Kuhl, Kristin Ostrom and Gabby Ayala should devote more time helping to remove illegals rather than working for better wages, better working conditions and labor protection for them. That would be American, that would fulfill their duty as an American citizen. To me, their goals are un-American, unpatriotic and upside down.

In spite of what these people and groups advocate, this country needs more crackdowns on illegals, not less. To those that say that we can’t deport them all or shouldn’t deport them, take note that during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work. Harry Truman deported two million illegals after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans. In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 1.3 million Mexican nationals. The program was called "Operation Wetback" and it was done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took over two years but they deported them.

Now, if they could and did deport the illegals back then, they surely can and should do it today. The law, economy and uneployment rate dictate as much.

Great letter Jerry Hart and have yourself a happy 4th of July!

I couldn't agree with you more, that by supporting illegal immigration it is un-American. These self proclaimed do-gooders need to put their extra time and efforts into a different hobby. Stop attempting to medal in what is a Fremont, Nebraska issue and let the citizens choose what they'd like to see accomplished.

I'd personally like to see "Operation Wetback II" implemented with 20x the results of the first round.

To Jerry from you local Enabler,

Just thought I would let you know that I served as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. My job was to keep Marines alive, as we fought in the giant Iraqi sandbox.

You talk about defending our country against all enemies, well sir let me assure you I know all about that topic. You know who also knows all about that topic, several anchor babies of whom I served with. That's right, Marines who's parents are in the country illegally. These people came to the U.S. and raised their children to be proud Americans. So much so that these guys were willing to fight for it and in some cases, die for it. If that's not a true American, than I don't know what is.

So I ask you sir, are these Marine's parents enemies of the U.S. as you say in the above letter? Are these guys committing a Federal Felony by not turing their parents in to the authorites?

Happy 4th of July!

To Dodge County Fist: I agree to a certain extent with you. If the illegals want to serve in the military and then become citizens the do it but face it there folks still come over here illegally and no I wouldn't turn my folks in either but illegal is illegal. I also was a FMF Corpman with the Marines overseas and I don't know what that has to do with illegals coming over here illegally. Bravo for there sons for serving but illegal is illegal.

In the Trib's "standards" section, it says they will not publish comments that are "defamatory, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable."
Yet, they see no problems with Mr. Hart's and Ruxpin's use of "w*****k". I get that that was the govt. term for that 50's operation. But yet Mr. Hart felt compelled to mention it by name, knowing it's defamatory, racially and ethnically objectionable nature, when he could have just as easily not used that term. And Mr. Ruxpin was quick to pick up on it, no doubt snickering as he typed.
I can't imagine the Trib printing the N word no matter what the context, and the W word is every bit as offensive and vulgar.
What are we to take from this?
1. I refuse to believe that the Trib moderators are as ignorant as these writers. Rather, I think that they see these people for who they are and will let them expose themselves as such.
2. That despite their objections to the contrary, the most vocal petition backers are indeed ig'nant racists. If there was ever a doubt, that's no longer the case.
3. I was right all along. And that's too bad.

TIRED OF MORONS

You are correct to a certain point...

But you of all people are complaining about name calling. I can think of several of your comments that I honest stopped reading because they were laced with some many out right insults against people that don't agree with you and your point.

Go ahead....attack me...if you think verses just react...you may or may not have noticed I've made very few comments the past couple of weeks.

I don't know Jerry Hart...and yet, I do not see where he has said / done anything near as horrible as you'd like readers to believe.

Laws are laws....illegal is illegal...
and I think that is the message Jerry Hart is trying to delivery...don't you?

The court will deliver it's position on if we get to vote on the proposed ordinance. And the whole matter will be brought to a head one way or the other.
There appears to be no doubt the majority of Fremonters will vote in favor of the ordinance 'if' given a chance to vote.

Until that time perhaps it would be a good idea if we "all" just took a deep breath and celebrated the 233 birthday of the United States of America!

Dodge Co. Iron Fist:

Hey Doc, greetings from sunny San Diego, CA. I just wanted to let you know that I agree with everything you said. I have many Hispanic brother that I trust with my life. When these guys go out in civilian clothes, they get harassed by people who see them and assume they are illegals.

Let the naysayers rant. They don't know what they are talking about.

Anyone have any updates on what the status of us getting to vote is? I haven't seen anything publicized for a long time. Updates please?

I never really had an opinion about this immigration debat until I went into the Military. The Navy is where I made my first friends who were Hispanic.

I keep hearing from people that they are not being racist, they are only standing up for the law. I wish this were true, but it just does not pass the smell test.

One day one of my friends who is a Marine, was in line a head of me paying for his gas. A Hispanic woman walked into the service station and he said "hello how are you?" in Spanish. He was quickly told to go back to Mexico and come here legally, by someone who was within earshot.

I wish I could write this incident off as a case of one ignorant person, but I have seen the same scenario play out many times after that.

I am anything but a bleeding heart liberal. However, I call it like I see it and this "illegal is illegal" argument has racist undertones written all over it. It really saddens me to see this ignorant behavior going on in my hometown.

Just cause you served with hispanics that parents were here illegally doesn't make it right it still breaks the law...I have a question for you why should they be exempt from the law are you? Those soldiers maybe the best you have ever served with and yes its one of the biggest parts of being American but ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL. No matter what way you want to put it or put your own little spin on it, it breaks the law and it needs to stop.

Joe:
You've hit the nail on the head. You and your cronies see racist comments as nothing more than "name calling". That's ignorance. I call y'all "rednecks", "hillbillies", and the like, not because of the color of your skin, but because Fremonters, as a whole, are living monuments to such pop culture as "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Green Acres", "Hee Haw", the jokes of Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, or any resident of "Mayberry RFD". IMO.
And here's why I think you are wrong:
The message Mr. Hart is trying to deliver, is not that "illegal is illegal". I agree with that, as do most, contrary to what you might believe. That's not debatable. And it's been delivered time and again.
Mr. Hart's message, as I see it, is this:
He has unequivocally played the race card when he went with the w*****k comment. He stepped over the line. It's as if he just couldn't help himself, and his true nature finally came through.
I honestly feel that with his letter he has purposely elevated the "illegal" debate to an even uglier, new level. Yet at the same time, he and his fellow petitioners would like to make us believe that they're not racists? Hello?
You're right that the court will ultimately decide if Fremonters will vote on the ordumbnance or not. Too bad the court can't rule on ignorance. And if you don't see his (and Mr. Ruxpin's) comments as horrible, offensive and repulsive, well then that just proves what I've been saying all along:
Fremonters, by and large, are out of touch with the world that surrounds them. It is just as unacceptable to refer to Hispanics as W's, as it is to refer to Jews as K's, and African-Americans as N's. No matter what the context.
And just to clarify how I see things:
1. I think most Fremonters are rubes and hicks. Except me. And maybe a few others.
2. I do not support illegal immigration, but I also think the ordinance is stupid and waste of time. And its supporters, the most vocal ones, are racists. Even if they don't realize it.
3. And I've taken it upon myself to point it out to them.
That being said, I read all (or nearly all) of your posts. Rarely do I agree. But I still read them, and I appreciate your semi-willingness to consider an opposite view.
P.S.
Ditto to Fist.

Iron Fist;
So if I follow your logic to it's logical conclusion;
Since I have a son that is currently in the Marine corps and served in Iraq, obeying the law is optional? I'll try that the next time I get pulled over for speeding.
I'll let you know hoow that works out for me.

Why is it that if I disagree with people over illegal immigration I am tagged a racist? I welcome anyone who choses to come here legally. I in fact like the diversity. However, I am appalled that since I find the cowardness of people sneaking across the border and acting entitled I am a racist. Don't think so. If you chose to be here do it through legal channels where we have knowledge of your medical, criminal or any other background. Maybe if this was enforced things like 9/11 would not have been able to happen. We can only absorb so many new people in America per year before we go under.

Thank you tired of morons! Somebody else in this stupid town agrees with me. This town is full of idiots who are so ignorant, these people think that anybody with skin color that is not white must be an illegal. People of Fremont are so rude to people of another race. They don't speak to anybody they are full of themselves. Back to the redneck issue, did anybody see all of the rednecks riding around in the back of trucks on the 4th of July? I didn't see the cops pulling them over-they were doing something illegally. Maybe I should write up a column here about it.
Come on feel the noise

In my opinion the biggest problem is that there are a few bad apples in the Hispanic community that give the rest of them a bad name. People should be judged on an individual basis. Assimilation into the culture and interracial marriages will end the racism. After a generation or two you won't even know who's who or what you were arguing about.

TIRED OF MORONS, MANDI, ETC. ETC.

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!

You make me feel so-so young, again.

"Ignorant, redneck,hillbillies, racists,
all Fremonters are rubes and hicks, morons, dumbies, rude, stupid town(Fremont)" and the list goes on and on and on...when people don't agree with you!

Make me feel young? When I was in Linden Grade School several years ago..
the big thing (if you wanted to shoot
someone down) was to call them "silly" time at recess time (so the teachers couldn't hear you). Also...we big bad guys in grade school were trying to impress the girls...little did we know until told by the same girls...the did not think us "cool" nor did they like the name calling.

My message to you name callers, etc.?
You are only hurting your "own cause" or point of view with the name calling and belittling of people - -just because they do not agree with you and your position on immigration.

I have lived in like 12 states and perhaps 20 cities during my successful insurance career...and your approach of "shooting the messager" doesn't surprise me.

Thanks for listening, and have a GREAT
week?

Kool Aid Kid and Not Amused:

You missed the point entirely. What my comments and NE Devil Dog's comments are pointing out is that some people in this country see Hispanic people and immediately assume they are here illegally. I have see this ignorant behavior taken so far as to be directed at people who just so happen to be in the Military. Unfortunately it seems that you guys and others on this page are ok with that.

You say that the law is the law and illegal is illegal. I seem to remember being tought in school about something called Jim Crow Laws. These laws were the law of the land at the time, but society woke up and realized they were wrong and removed them from the books. Even Jim Crow Laws had supporters saying "the law is the law, end of debate." Sound familiar?

I hope society wakes up again and realizes that this illegal is illegal nonsence is wrong too.

Hey, all you self proclaimed really smart compassionate people. By immediately belittling any and everyone that doesn’t slack jaw agree with you aren’t you assuming a great deal. Posters aren’t required to be identified by race not to mention few that post use their real names. So isn’t it an “ignorant” racist assumption to assume everyone that leaves a post on a blog regarding ending illegal immigration is a country hick white trash bigoted inbreed hillbilly?

Iron Fist; First of all let me thank you for your service to our country and your compassion for your fellow man.

You say I missed your point, however the point of several of your posts has been exactly to excuse the behaviour of some because of the voluntary sacrifice of their children. I for one am very thankful for anyone that would choose to defend the freedom of others, regardless of ethnicity. What pains me is out government's willful ignorance of the dangers that are crossing the border along with these mostly hard working, honest people.

Because the government is choosing not to enforce the laws that are designed to protect you, me and everyone that makes it to our borders, we are all in danger of disease, terrorism, crime, etc. Our governement has failed us and every else residing in the U.S.

We must enforce immigration law while making it easier for people to immigrate leagally instead of the other way around.

Thanks again

This is what happens when you take the blind fold off " Lady justice" and start using empathy. The rule of law breaks down. Justice is meant to be blind and not pander to a specific race. If a person has served in the US military they should know more than any about justice being blind since they did take an oath to uphold and protect the constitution.

I am also tired of being called a racist, hillbilly, redneck, bigot, and etc. I find it somewhat funny you cant have a serious debate on this issue because that seems to be the only defense of the other side.O well maybe someday people will base decisions off facts and not empathy.

Hoover did not deport illegal aliens. Those deported were part of the bracero program, a scheme to (legally) import laborers from Mexico who could be exploited and paid low wages and then shipped back out of the U.S. when times got tough. This was not explained to them adequately at the time, either.

So get your facts straight. Or get them from a reputable source. I'd settle for either one at this point.

DON'T COME INTO THIS COUNTRY UNLAWFULLY AND EXPECT TO BE ACCEPTED BY LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS. THIS IS NOT BRAIN SURGERY PEOPLE. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE.

I,m not agianst immigration only those who refuse to live as americans. If you want to live here then learn our language which is english at your expense, and follow our american laws as our forfathers did .America has only one flag and it is the red, white and blue. And if imigrants don't like our laws, our american ways then I suggest they go back to thier country. And if they want to fly thier countries flags then go back where you come from . However if you learn to speak our language follow our laws and learn to be an american at your expense then you are welcome just as immigrates have alwayus been in this country. I agree whole heartidly with Jerry Hart That these people are illigal and are sucking on American people by takeing jobs, using our welfare system for the so called anchor babies and by making it so people have to learn thier language in order to maintain a job or teach classes in school. Why can't people realize this is America and English is our language and anyone wanting to live here need to learn to speak it and write it and read it Then maybe they could understand our laws.

To what if:
What you described in your post is a criminal act. Being illegal is not a criminal act, it is a civil act. So as long as our government does not enforce this civil law there is nothing you can do. Comparing the two incidences is rather moronic. When a person crosses the border without documentation and enters the USA the only way this is a criminal act is if they get caught. Please note that in raids done throughout the USA those deported were not deported just for being here illegally, they were deported for fraud, id theft, tax evasion, etc. (criminal acts). Unless the congress and the senate get off their collective heinies and enact a law making it a criminal offense to be here illegally this problem will not be solved and more than likely grow. Our govenment is giving too many rights and protections to people who break the laws. The buck stops with them. Start calling, email and writing them. Hold our governments official accountable, let them know they are in Washington because we put them there and if they do not function as they promised in their campaigns, get them out, recall, impeach or vote out. We need to set the same term limits for them as we do for the president. We need our government official that being a senator, congressman or anything else is a service for your country, NOT A LIFETIME FREE PASS FOR THEM!!!! Make them answer to us, remember it is our dime they are working on.

The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It's time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.

Google "Megamerge Dissolution Solution" to read my article about the new paradigm for U.S.-Mexico relations.
