Tarah Jeppesen had an outstanding 650 series to top all youth bowlers in June. Jeppesen was bowling in the Thursday night youth singles which is a 4-game set, and her total was 873 and included the high game for youth girls of 253.
Dylan Powley had the best set for boys with 634 in the same league.
Ryan Wolfe had the high game of 256.
Matt Carlson led the adult bowlers with 749 bowling in the Wednesday scratch doubles league.
Justin Schmidt had the high game for June in the same league with 276.
Kellie Hill set both highs for women with 212 and 561.
Ron Stewart bowling in the Sunday 9 pin no-tap league recorded a 300 game in June (never easy, even playing no-tap). Stewart was also the high average in the Wednesday scratch doubles league as of the first of July with a 204.
Rick Miller of Lincoln won the annual Plaza Lanes Sport Challenge tournament held on the 14th to earn a $400 first-place prize. Miller averaged 217 during the 5-game qualifier with 1,085 on a difficult sport oil pattern.
Rich Vance of Bellevue was next high qualifier with 1,024. Vance lost in the first semifinal match to Nick Yocum of Omaha 198 to 192, and ended in fourth place for $100.
David Schilke of Lincoln was the only other bowler to average 200 in the qualifier with 1,001. Schilke won the first semifinal game 234 to 227 over Chad Goodwin, but lost the next match to Yocum 234 to 227 and ended in third place for $140.
Goodwin was the third high qualifier with 990, but ended in fifth place for $70.
Yocum was the fifth high qualifier with 972 but by winning the match play semis got to meet Miller for the final match, a best 2 of 3 game matches, but Miller was unstoppable with scores of 211 to 165 and 246 to 224. Yocum earned $200 for second place.
Jack Swanson of Fremont/Omaha was the last casher for $50 but had to win a one-game roll-off against Doug Ullman of Springfield as both bowlers had 952 scores.
Other Fremont bowlers were Matt Carlson 944, Chad Beatty 934, Art Johnson 859, Justin Schmidt 833 and Tyler Kotrous 801.
With summer about half over it’s time to start planning for fall league play. Most leagues will be holding organizational meetings during the early part of August. Make it a point to attend your league meeting to find out what is happening and express your opinions about league rules.
