Fire department leads drill at Bell Field

Silently the “smoke” filled the hallways of Fremont’s Bell Field Elementary School on Monday.

Then the alarm sounded and students quickly exited the building, moving to safety away from the structure.

On this day, it was simply a drill using the Fremont Fire Department’s smoke machine. But the drill offers practice in case of a real emergency.

This is Fire Prevention Week, a time when the fire department assists in fire drills at many Fremont schools.

Each year the fire department selects one Fremont school to use the smoke machine. At others, firefighters will time the drills to make sure students are exiting the buildings in a quick and orderly fashion.
