A Fremont Police officer responding to a call for an officer needing help was involved in a one-vehicle accident late Wednesday night.

Lt. Jeff Elliott said a III-Corps agent was involved in an altercation shortly before midnight at the 300 block of East Fourth Street when he put out a call for assistance.

The Nebraska State Patrol, which investigated the accident, said 28-year-old Matthew Roby was responding to the call when he lost control of his cruiser and slammed into Busche’s Car Wash at 1450 W. Military Ave.

Elliott said the Roby was transported by helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center, where he was believed to be in stable condition.

Elliott said the cruiser was destroyed in the accident and the business sustained extensive damage. West Military Avenue was closed from midnight until 3 or 4 a.m., Elliott said.

Elliott said the officer who called for assistance was able to get away from the situation.
