Betty Benes

Betty I. Benes, 89, of Wahoo died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Saunders Medical Center in Wahoo.

She was born Nov. 6, 1919, near Brainard to Adolph and Mary (Tejral) Komenda. She attended a country school near Brainard. When World War II began, she worked at the Ordnance Plant near Mead. She married George F. Benes on Oct. 6, 1945, in Brainard. They lived on a farm just south of Wahoo the first four years of marriage and then moved to a farm south of Ceresco, where they farmed. They later retired and moved to Wahoo.

She was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a member of Altar Rosary Society and St. Ludmilla Guild, and a former parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Davey.

Survivors include: two sisters, Dorothy (and husband, Howard) Novotny of Valparaiso and Agnes Benes of Wahoo; and sisters-in-law, Glee Komenda of Brainard, Rose Komenda of Wahoo and Anna Bouc of Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and three brothers.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Visitation will be from 4-

8 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo with an altar rosary society rosary at 5 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
