Willis Sellhorn

Willis H. Sellhorn, 84, of Lincoln died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his home in Lincoln.

He was born June 20, 1925, in North Bend to Herman H. and Mary (Watt) Sellhorn. He was raised in North Bend. He graduated from North Bend High School and then entered the U.S. Army in 1943. After his discharge he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and then he attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He then moved to St. Louis where he graduated from a Mortuary Science School. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and he worked with his father at Sellhorn Funeral Home for several years. In 1950, he began working for OPPD as a lineman. He moved to Ralston in 1963 and continued working as a foreman. He moved to Tecumseh in 1967 when he became the area manager and he retired in 1987. After retirement he lived in San Diego for seven years. In 1993, he moved to Sun City West, Ariz., and returned to Nebraska in October 2009 to reside in Lincoln.

He married Virginia L. Lorent on Feb. 6, 1948, in Washington, D.C. She died March 7, 2006.

He was a member of North Bend Masonic Lodge 119 AF & AM and North Bend Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223.

Survivors include: two sons, Mark (and wife, Barbara) Sellhorn of Lincoln and Brent (and wife, Donna) Sellhorn of Lindsborg, Kan.; three daughters, Susan Puchalla of Omaha, Janet (and husband, Bill) Shelly of Brea, Calif., and Mary (and husband, Brice) Moeller of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Phebe Rehbein of Fremont; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, five sisters and a son-in-law.

The graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend. Military honors will be conducted by North Bend VFW Post 8223, AMVETS Post 20 and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff. There is no visitation.
