Two families trying to develop businesses will come before the Dodge County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday.

Daniel and Laurie Wobken of rural Hooper are seeking a conditional use permit to operate a commercial kennel and facilities. Woody and Marianne Slama of rural Scribner are seeking a conditional use permit for a bed and breakfast.

Both conditional use permit requests will have public hearings when the Board of Supervisors meets beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday on the third floor of the Dodge County Courthouse.

The meeting -- along with the hearings on the conditional use permits -- is open to the public.

Hearings for the Wobkens and Slamas are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., respectively.

The Wobkens live on a 12-acre lot at 2277 County Road F near Hooper and the proposed kennel site is mostly surrounded by agricultural fields.

The Slamas live on a

5-acre lot at 385 County Road 16 near Scribner. Information from their application for a conditional use permit showed no additional buildings would be constructed for the bed and breakfast, which would accommodate up to four people.

One other business has a request before the board on Wednesday.

Timothy Marsh, co-owner of Uncle Larry’s at 2200 Proctor Road, is requesting a change in his liquor license application. The change would add the second-floor offices onto the license and removed a proposed sidewalk cafe.

In a letter to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission, Marsh said he decided to add the second-floor offices after meeting with representatives of the Nebraska State Patrol.

Marsh and his wife have been working to open the sports bar for several months.

When is Uncle Larry's going to open?! I remember reading Nov. 1st was their rough "opening" date. However, I made a special trip to drive by on Sunday and the sign still says 'coming soon'. My old lady and I were ready to stop in to watch some football and have some beers.

This bar can not open soon enough!

One can only assume that due to changing his liquor license it probably slowed up construction to the bar. I can only imagine the time it took just to clean that place up.

Watch this "kennel" situation closely, Fremont animal lovers!

Best of luck to the Wobkens if they're going to be running a clean, responsible kennel, but we don't want a puppy mill in our backyard. Let them know that they've got eyes on them.
