A local restaurant’s efforts to build its wine list is getting noticed.

J’s Steakhouse, 406 Main St., recently was featured by wine columnist Dale Stephen Sparks in the Desert Leaf, a monthly newspaper in Tucson, Ariz.

Sparks is a sommelier and wholesale distributor. His company has a division in Omaha.

“He heard about the win list and what we were doing,” said Jay Siers, owner of J’s Steakhouse.

Sparks visited J’s during a recent trip to Omaha to provide some training for the staff.

“J’s Steakhouse is working hard to write and, more important, execute a topnotch wine list,” Sparks wrote.

Siers said he had no idea Sparks was going to write about the restaurant.

Since the column, Siers has received at least 15 phone calls inquiring about his wine list.

Currently, J’s offers 117 wines with prices ranging from $18 to $429.

“This proves the wine list is not a passing fad,” Siers said.

The Desert Leaf prints more than 56,000 copies each month and is distributed to the Catalina Foothills communities of Tucson.

Too bad its not getting noticed (the wine list) by Fremonters. If its not in a jug or a suitcase, Fremonter won't give it a sniff.

Hey Bobo RIGHT ON why must fremonters drive alllll the way into omaha (for those who don't want their wine in a jug or suitcase, lol) when we have so much to offer here espcially downtown, the more people shop and eat here the more we will have to offer, and with gas prices back on the rise why would you want to drive any further than you have too
