The one-act play season is about ready to kick of at Archbishop Bergan High School.
Bergan students will be performing “Asylum” beginning Tuesday at a one-act festival at Stanton. A performance for parents is scheduled for Monday night.
Bergan also will be hosting the Centennial Conference one-act competition Nov. 23 and the district competition Dec. 1. Both events will be at Midland Lutheran College.
A public performance is scheduled for Nov. 29 at St. Patrick’s Auditorium.
Director Chris Kabes said “Asylum” is an unusual play that takes the audience in different directions.
“It’s kind of bizarre and leaves you thinking at the end,” Kabes said.
Because of the unusual theme of the play, Kabes said the
20-student cast and crew have been forced to go beyond simply memorizing lines.
“We’ve had to sit down a couple times and just talk about the scenes,” Kabes said. “What does this line mean and what is the meaning behind this scene?”
Sophomore Patrick Colgan plays the lead character of Stan in the play.
Kabes said Tuesday’s festival at Stanton will give his students the opportunity to hone their performances.
“We’ve got a really young group and I think it’ll help if they’re able to watch some of these other schools perform and to also hear a critique from the judge,” he said.
Kabes also is excited about having the chance to host the conference and district competitions.
“It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to for a while,” he said. “I’m especially thankful to be able to use Midland’s facilities.”
Other cast and crew members are: Delaney Clark, T.J. Fryklind, Kelsey Chamberlain, Emily Fryklind, Alex Beeson, Jacob Herink, Dillon Laaker, Amanda Chamberlain, Lauren Fischer, Micaela Lesiak, Cassidy Reller, Wyatt Getzschman, Larami Harris, Chandler Classen, Austen Neill, Jordan Heimann, Matt Jacobs, Laura Morris, Mason Bowman, Thomas Lassek and Destini Waage.
