Rising temperatures bring attention to falling leaves

One of the busiest places in Fremont on Thursday had to be the transfer station.

If a steady stream of folks like Don Ammon dropping off leaves, there was a certain hustle and bustle about the place.

With a couple of more sunny days on tap, even more people are bound to drop off leaves. The transfer station, 1200 Hamilton St., is open until 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Dan Nelson took advantage of the sunny weather to help rake leaves at his daughter’s home. He and others will have more chances today and this weekend for the annual autumn activity.

Today should be mostly sunny with a high in the lower 70s, the forecasters at the National Weather Service in Valley stated. South winds of 10 mph to 15 mph might help move all those leaves, too.

The overnight now should be in the lower 40s.

Saturday should be sunny with a high in the upper 60s and north winds of 5 mph to 10 mph. Overnight, the low should be in the mid 40s.

The string of mostly sunny days continues on Sunday when the high temperature should be in the upper 60s. There is a

20 percent chance of rain after midnight Sunday night with an overnight low in the lower 40s.

A 30 percent chance of rain greets the work week on Monday with a high in the upper 50s.

Was this story about the leaves or the weather. I wish you would have written about the "transfer station". What is it and do they use the leaves for mulch and for whom? I am an out-of-townee. Just wanting to know....
