Janet Kletke has been a friend of libraries for a long time.
"There’s free learning for everyone (here)," she said. "Everyone can come here."
Kletke, one of the charter members of Friends of Keene Memorial Library, was honored for her volunteerism Friday night with the Faith Perry Award. The award has been given to a friend of the library since 2002.
"I think it’s nice to be on the same plaque with all these other people," Kletke said. "And to be friends with Faith makes it special, too."
Perry is a longtime volunteer with the Friends of the Library.
Kletke didn’t know she was going to receive the award. She was asked to come to Friday’s Dessert in the Stacks event to give a report on how she gets people to volunteer for the annual Friends book sale.
It’s that volunteer effort she was honored for on Friday, said Ann Stephens, Keene Memorial director.
"That’s a big job," Stephens said.
"We rely on volunteers," she added. "These volunteers who are friends of the library are vital assets.
While Kletke has been a valuable volunteer, Stephens added she’s also been a good library user.
Other award winners, starting from 2002, were: Perry, Ben Harvey, Larry Jirsak, Kelsey Abel, Helen Drumright, Dave and Karol Theophilus and Vince O’Connor.
