Robert D. Green, 91, of Fremont died Wednesday,
Nov. 4, 2009, at Hooper Care Center.
He was born June 11, 1918, in Alexander, Iowa, to George and Hazel (Switzer) Green. He lived in Chapin, Iowa, and several other towns in the Midwest where he was manager of Kresge’s Variety Store and Hesteads. After retiring from the retail business he moved to Hackensack, Minn., where he owned and operated The Wood Shed. He moved to Fremont in November 1992 and did wood working until retiring in December 2000.
He married Iwanda G. Roney on Aug. 27, 1939, in Chapin, Iowa. She died Jan. 8, 2000.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Fremont and had been an active member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Fremont.
Survivors include: a daughter, Marsha (and husband, Dennis) Carsey of Fremont; two sons, Robert Green Jr. (and wife, Mary) of Sunrise, Fla., and Terry (and wife, Lori) Green of Maitland, Fla.; a sister, Maxine Letzring of Mount Horab, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lindy, Daren and Jim Green; and two sisters, Trela Barney and Pearl Green.
The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Fremont with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating. There is no visitation, however, friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at the church.
