City of Fremont crews were busy placing flags on downtown streets this morning, just one more reminder Veterans Day is Wednesday.

Across the Fremont area, residents are honoring those who served in the United States armed forces.

Gov. Dave Heineman is a featured speaker at Wahoo’s ceremony, which began at 9 a.m.

Fremont’s Avenue of Flags will once again be on display Wednesday. From Clarkson Street to Johnson Road, flags will line Military Avenue.

Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help place the flags. Those wishing to help should gather at 8 a.m. at the eternal flame in Memorial Park.

Fremont’s Trinity Lutheran School will continue its Veterans Day tradition on Wednesday.

Veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces are invited to be the special guests of Trinity’s tribute on Wednesday. An open invitation also is extended to the Fremont community and the

surrounding areas.

The formal ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A variety of patriotic songs, videos and testimonies will be shared as well as a keynote address by Col. Russell Hula.

Hula is serving in the U.S. Air Force at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He is a native of Fremont and a former Trinity student.

Following the ceremony, a special thank you will be shared by the 166 students in kindergarten through the eighth grade at Trinity.

A complimentary lunch also will be served at noon for veterans, active duty personnel and their families. Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 854 is providing the funds for the meal. Immediately after the lunch, Hula will be available for questions and answers.

Reservations aren’t necessary for the lunch, and walk-ins will be welcomed and honored. However, those who know that they will be attending the lunch are asked to contact the school office at 721-5959 to help the cooks make general plans.
