As a registered Republican in Nebraska I am happy that the first stage of the Affordable Health Care bill passed. I am proud of those representatives who saw the need and are working to help the average American and I hope you will join them in the next vote.
It is unconscienable that insurance companies are charging so much and giving so little to so many Americans. I am thankful for the government plan with which I am insured - Medicare - and I trust that another type of public plan could do well for those who are uninsured. The people I talk to here in Fremont are in favor of a public plan like France, Denmark and other countries have. Our friends in Canada are thankful for their good coverage.
If you really want to represent the people in Nebraska and the US, do the right thing. Vote to help them, not to reward big business. Churches around the country today preached about justice - help us to share in it.
LETTER: This Republican is happy with the vote

I was wondering....Where will they put all the people that don't take out insurance. It's true Mary, that the bill will require a fine and jail time for not carrying insurance. I guess we will have to let the murders, rapists and drug dealers go so we have room for CM and all the others like him. If I choose to not carry heath insurance on myself, that is my business. If I can't afford it, the hospital is required to treat me anyway. This is a bunch of hogwash. I don;t mind helping the guy who is down and out, but I do mind helping the lazy people that choose not to work. And don't tell me it is a tough job market. There are jobs available out there but some people won't "stoop" to flipping burgers. And don;t take that literally, you know what I mean.Joseph P. Sokolovsky

Call yourself what ever you want, Republican, Democrat, Communist, so what."Affordable Health Care" is not what this bill is proposing. This bill proposes for these ego-maniacs in Washington to take over 6% of our nations economy when 80% of the population are OK with the insurance they have. There is a mere 12 million people who actually can not afford insurance although they have free health care when required (not really free, their care is paid for by those who pay insurance premiums and those who pay for their own care). You don't throw away your car because you have a flat tire.
Beware the cost of Medicare if a national health care bill is passed.
Conservatism (not Republicanism) works every time it's tried.

This bill must be what big insurance wants, because they are pumping out anti-health care reform commercials. If Big insurance didn't like it you can rest assured, they would waging a full tilt smear campaign.Negative Ned

There is a famous quote by John Wayne Mary......"Life is hard, but its really hard if you are uninformed." Thats the nice way of putting it. For heavens sake Mary, read the bill! It is going to be a nightmare for the people of this country.
I don't think you have read any of it because you would not be making statements like that if you had.
Get informed Mary or we are all doomed to government in every aspect of our lives.

It is sad that as a world power nation we do not even look after the medical needs of our own. We have 50 million people and rising uninsured or underinsured and 7,000 people daily losing their benefits. Unemployment is at an all time high and we have let this issue become not one of necessity but of politics and party lines. We have let politics and insurance companies use scare tactics to try and shift the public's thinking, when the bottom line is health reform and public option not only work but work well in most countries around the world. Canada, England and many more are happy with their coverage. We have the haves and have nots in a debate, while the haves think why should I pay taxes to cover the uninsured? First remember you are one layoff or catastrophy away from being a have not, secondly aren't our tax dollars designed to benefit the people of the USA? It seems now the only ones who benefit are the big companies, corporation, overseas and south of the border, congressmen and senators with self-absorbing agendas. The good of the people has totally failed. I for one find that so wrong. When did we become such a me, me, me nation? We are willing to give overseas or south of the border, why do we deny our very own within the USA? I do not understand the people who oppose this, but then again I have never been one to understand selfish, uncaring, self-important ignoramouses. I only hope that God willing Washington wakes up and finally does what it is suppose to do- take care of all Americans. Damn the politics, lets get back to principles in our government!Joe Everybody

I have Medicare, what a joke. If….IF Medicare pay’s my doctor it’s usually after 12-18 months of paperwork. At an already reduced rate the little my doctor gets paid by Medicaid is chewed up in government paperwork. So what happens when we remove all the paying customers? What educated person would go to work to lose money each day before risking years of law suits. Isn’t there a poll I read that 45% of current USA Doctors say they will close their doors rather than work for a loss?I’ve read parts of the 1990 page nightmare on health care reform. In what Dream World has our Federal Government done anything on time or anywhere near budget? Forgetting the more than 1 trillion dollar cost, what will happen when we collapse our health care industry? How many good paying jobs will be lost when we have a health care system run by lawyers? Under this proposed system you may not receive medical care but your corpse is gonna’ be rich! Frankly, Washington can keep the Hope…..I’ll keep my pocket Change.
Also remember that this wonderful health care reform, worked out in the dead of night, is only for us little people. Government employees, labor unions & politicians all get to keep their Cadillac Health Plans (paid for by tax payers of course). If this is such a great deal I have an idea. Since the groups forcing this boondoggle on a population that doesn’t want it have opted out let them join the program first. In two years, before the 2012 elections, we as voters can see how well it works out.

nancy,YOU DONT GET IT!
I am sorry for any medical/financial problems you may have.
However, this bill is NOT about health care reform. Its about GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER health care.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and all the other "founding fathers" revolted from the BIG GOVERNMENT and high taxes of Great Britian. The exact opposite of what you are clammoring for in your latest post. They belived in the prospect of PERSONAL FREEDOM and the PERSONAL RESPONISIBILITY that goes with it!
This demand for health care coverage by people who desire it dont understand that when they demand gov takeover of something they are giving control to said government. Government can then demand you do evrything they say or be prosecuted (police power of a gun).
For example they are mandating people buy health ins OR GO TO JAIL & PAY A FINE! Never before in US history has the GOV demanded people buy a product. Car ins is NOT the same thing. A person can choose to NOT buy a car & drive.
History is full of people giving away freedom for being "taken care of" by government.
In 1789 the French people revolted against the royal family and the aristocrats in the name of class warfare. afterwords the leaders became power hungry and started to anyone who disagreed with them in the french head removal program. In time they were overthrown by the people and dictator Napoleon rose from the ashes and spent years invading other nations in Europe. The bolshevics in 1917 revolted "for the people" from the Czar family in Russia and it became the communist revolution of the 20th century. People got taken care of in those nations but Stalin, Mao se tung, Pol Pot executed 100 million people who disagreed with them. I know Nancy you are going to claim that people dont care about struggling people & that is not true, they just dont want BIG GOVERNMENT running things. Gov power is a slippery slope and you cant put the gene back in the bottle once its let out.

Great letter Mary!!! It's wonderful to hear from someone that does not believe all the lies that have been spread in an effort to scare people. It's so easy to point out the obvious lies about Death panels and such, I won't even go there. Just have faith that we are the majority who support health care reform, regardless of how many mindless people write into here. What really scares me is all the people that are getting ripped off without realizing it. This is to the point that they support the insurance companies who's coverage they can not afford. I think it's time for a new defintion of idiot...Grouch

Mary, if your really a registered Republican, and this is how you truly think, it comes as no surprise to me why the party is in deep doo-do.To Brian
Nov 11, 2009 10:50 PM
Brian-Nancy does get it. I get it. I think the one not getting it is you. Basically you don't want your cozy little insured world being touched and if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't either. HOWEVER, since I am a tax paying hard working 40+ hour a week worker and I have no health insurance, I see things differently.
At least if they fine me and throw me in jail, I can get my medical expenses taken care of in there. They get great medical benfits if you ask me. Desperate people will do desperate things. It shouldn't have to come down to this.
If this wasn't the right answer, maybe you should consider being a lobbyist and get those changes made.
I dont think Nancy claims that people dont care about struggling people, but I think she is fighting for her right to have some of the same choices to get some healthcare without going bankrupt. I am in physical pain EVERY DAY and can not afford to go find out anything or get treatment or medication. So this is my life. Jail is looking better and better all the time.
Maybe we can be cell mates Nancy?

Great letter Mary. For those who don't want insurance or can live without it God forbid one day you have a massive "something" and you're under medical care for months and can't afford to pay the bill! For those who can afford paying their medical bills without insurance, what smart person with money would not take insurance? Obviously if you're smart enough to be wealthy you're smart enough to take insurance of any kind. It's a great start Mary and those here whom lay claim to reading this bill, missed the typed parts of it because if they actually read the bill in it's entirety, they would rescind all this garbage they've been talking about. Cost have risen because of those not insured and receiving treatment and not paying the bill as well as uninsured and being unable to afford the bill. Kudos to those who want nothing to do with western medicine, believe me when I say one day you will need something and it's better to be safe then to be bankrupt because of no insurance. It's not a goverment take over people get off that horse and stop watching these news shows that state that, they get paid to fool you! You think any of them will not carry health insurance once this bill is up and running, believe me they would not think twice about getting it. Insurance is just that insurance a safety measure of sorts, no one I know would be dumb enough to live without it because you place yourself at risk. If you don't like medicare because your doctor isn't getting paid a week after your visit...you're insane! Your physician gets paid even if late, they get paid! Be grateful that you're not the one doing all the paper work. To Becca, get real let the murderers and rapist go to fill our jails with uninsured people? What planet are you on? Do you really think they would do that? My suggestion to you is to accept your employers health coverage and or a government plan, eventually everyone WILL need it. You all watch a bit too much television and not the right shows! and to Mr.Joseph P. Sokolovsky, you were just down right rude, obviously you await the new articles of the tribune to come online everyday to put your two sense in, have you ever read your two sense? You're so negative..almost always. A man who thinks he has so much wisdom should run for office and uplift this Nation of ours, instead you sit there on your chair and bang out rude comments, founding fathers would not be so rude like you are, check yourself. It is your right to speak your mind but do it with dignity, you are what you say! I seldom write in because I find it absolutely bizzar that these frequent bloggers on this site seem to think they know the ins and outs of how things of any nature should be done and yet, they're just sitting there. Leave your comments, don't question the writer or be rude and disrespectful, just leave your comments! Agree or disagree, it doesn't matter we don't care, just leave your thoughts about the topic on hand and let lay there, don't poke fun or call names like children do at the writers. Age check?Brian

To to Brian,as for your remark, "basically you dont want your little insured world touched and I if I were in your shoes I would not either, but since I am a tax paying 40+ hour week worker.."
1. Yes I do have ins, but I work for it as well. A hell of a lot more then 40 hours a week. I also PAY TAXES and EARN evry penny of my salary and benefits I do get.
2. Also my divorce decree states that I am responsible for 100% of my childrens heath care expenses-- example ins, deducatables, perscriptions, ect so I already face contempt of court charges if I do not pay above expenses. So I do not need the gov holding a second gun through the police power of government at me. Come to think of it Double jepardy is unconstitutional so actually that gives me another reason to oppose this health care bill.
3. AS for not wanting my world touched, thats the point of this. If the gov wants to pass a law that makes my life situation NOT as good as it is now, through PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY I should do what I can to to legally & peacefully oppose said law.
Another piece of logic you may miss. Do you actually think I am supposed to be in favor of a law that gives me NO BENEFIT since I already have health ins at work, but costs me MORE in the form of increased taxes & premiums? I am in effect getting nothing in exchange for increased expenses. BTW for those that claim I COULD be laid off. If I am laid off in the future, I would have no income but still be legally obligated to buy insurance or GO TO JAIL so with regards to that I am in the same boat anyway. Nothing gained by the new law for me. So in my showes i will choose freedom & responsibility over gov control any day.

I have yet to hear anyone in favor of handing over the management of our healthcare system to the government explain how creating yet another government beauracracy full of political hacks can possibly accomplish anything they hope it will. How is big government better than big business? Power corrupts, whether that power is in the hands of elected officials or CEO's. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Handing over more power to the federal government will only create more corruption. The only goal of the current health care reform legislation is to make the American people more dependant upon the government thereby attaining more control and power over us.
Please write to Senators Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns to express your views, whatever they may be, but please remember this; Dependance is the opposite of independance.

To all who agreed with me thanks & to Brian I DO GET IT! Not one of the wars, executions or government over throws were about health care reform. I personally am so tired of the republicans and insurance company scare tactics. Duh! doesn't take a genius to figure out who benefits by those tactics. I want not only me but anyone who needs medical care to not only receive it but not have to lose their home, their lives or their savings because of illness. Universal health care is working worldwide and it makes me so angry that we as a nation think nothing of spending money on anything but helping our own. Taxpayer money should benefit the taxpayers not the few sitting in Washington and their cronies, big business or own self-interests. We watch as everytime there is a budget cut it goes directly to programs that aid the poor, women or children, yet not once have we seen Congressmen or Senators cut or freeze their own pay or benefits. What other job in the world offers you the chance to decide you pay and pay you a retirement for life after only one term. Do away with that waste. If you are in the congress or senate for 20 yrs by all means you deserve a retirement but do you know how many exes are benefitting from short term retirement packages paid for by us. Reining in government pork barrel projects would free up trillions. Waste from overpayment in government contracts. Who needs a 600 dollar ashtray. But the sad truth is the ones that needs the most help are those that lose out. NOT ONE AMERICAN SHOULD BE DENIED HEALTH CARE COVERAGE!!!! We do not balk when money for medical is spent overseas or south of the border. We do not balk when groups such as illegal immigrants can walk into a hospital get treatment paid for on our dime, so why is there even a fight to care for our own? I do not understand anyone who would deny our own. With 7,000 people losing their benefits daily the numbers are rising rapidly for those uninsured or underinsured. Brian you are just one layoff or catastrophy away from being me. I am a taxpaying, full time working Nebraskan with no insurance and preexisting conditions. My insurance per month is almost the same as my net pay. Then 75% of what I need treated would be denied. Am I impressed with the state of things in the USA and the government official? H@#! NO! Brain please use that God given intelligence you have and think out of the Republican box & you too will come to the conclusion health care reform and public option are needed now, not another 78 yrs down the lineINSURED AND WORK FOR IT
Nov 12, 2009 11:23 AM
I am okay with paying for government paid Medicare already. I have a problem with the billions wasted on Medicaid and those that refuse to fend for themselves by getting a job and becoming a contributing member of society (a majority on this plan fall under my categorization) this would also inlcude the billions spent on illegal immigrant benefits we pay for. I have a MASSIVE problem with government run anything anymore...they bankrupted our postal system, they are headed towards adding a bankrupted social security to that resume, I DO NOT want to work my whole life with the false pretense (social security ended up this way for my age group) that when I am too old to work there will be medical coverage there paid for by others. There are too many people my age who are already milking the system and refuse to work or pay for their own in this world. I dont need to have the government add to my troubles by asking me to pitch in even more. I already work 50 hours a week, what... am I expected to get a part time job to pay for the lack of will of others??? The only government plan I support is a BASIC plan to help out with major health care of those of retirement age and children whose parents cannot provide for them. If you are legal age and able bodied you will work and get your own insurance. I dont want you to get on here and post your ever-so-special circumstance...it is excuses that have us not working to pay our own way and in the economic trouble now. Trust me you are all special leave it at that.
Also - if people would read up a little more... insurance companies only netted a 3% profit (on average amongst all companies) it is the hospitals charging 95.00 for a maternity test and 120.00 for an office visit so the doctor can do no more than tell me the results of that blood test. These are the costs we need to control before anymore of MY money is spent! I got charged 256.00 to meet the anesthesia who would be in my surgery for crime sakes! That is 1024.00/hour! Dont tell me insurance needs to be overhauled it is the charges that need the look! OH and we used to have CHAMPUS (gorvernment owned military insurance) there were certain doctors that would not take us because the government never paid but pennies on the dollar and took forever to pay. so if you all think Jesus himself is going to come down and hand you this new health plan, good luck getting doctors to take you unless you are dying right there! this health plan promises death to the middle class and capitalism as we have always enjoyed! If I wanted to live in a socialistic country and GIVE AWAY 48% of my income to the government I would have moved and fought for NORWAY!!!

NANCY - if I am one layoff away from having no health insurance then I will go on Medicaid like everyone else and when you are the only left with a job tell me how it feels to pay for your family AND MINE!Dont worry though because my husband and I were raised differently we wont be in the system long (if at all!!!) because we could never stand to be TAKEN CARE OF!
dont preach to me about the haves and have nots, because i would HAVE a heck of a lot nicer house if they would put some of those people on the WIC, MEDICAID and FOOD STAMP rolls out for a while and see how many excuses they make then. I personally know one mother who has been on all of the benefits I stated for almost 22 years now since her first pregnancy. She could never work because of her "eczema"! FUNNY I waited tables, bartended my way through college with eczema! She even gets Medicaid to pay for her tanning sessions! They even had to put gas in her tank to go to doctor's appointments! This life of Food Stamps, Medicaid, WIC and etc was so tough she chose to have THREE more kids for a total of 4! and SOMEHOW...she got tax refunds at the end of the year! (Child dependent tax credit) that is what our system looks like today and I refuse to take care of those poor poor awful HAVE NOTS anymore NANCY! it is these bottom-of-the-pool inhabitants that have come to define our society not those like me who have paid for it and choose not to anymore!
I am willing to take care of the children, I am willing to take care of my Vets, and I am willing to take care of my retired elders, but do not make me take care of people like I described any longer!

Hmm - If this policy is so great...why arent our House and Senate taking it?So OK you dont take the insurance and go to jail and get awesome coverage for a few months...then you get out and get insurance...then next year they come and tell you that you will use your local electric and water supply and not gas or your own septic or water system...THEN the next year they tell you that you MUST have a cell phone, the next year they tell you that they are doing away with all private schools and your kids can only go to public, then the year after that they do away with all of the hospitals as we know them now and demand we seek THEIR medical facilities and professionals...

nancy, you miss the point. The republicans sent out a 230 page bill to deal with YOUR concerns. (Pointed out from same interview by Leee Terry I brought up in another post.) It was NEVER got any serious attention by Pelosi b/c OMG it had an R label!!! Imagine that!!!! They wanted the 1,990 page monster bill that gives GOV CONTROL instead of private sector so they Got it passed. So dont say the R's dont care about the uninsured. You think the Gov bill will give you free health care and no strings attached. You dont care about how much control or freedom the gov takes from you as long as you have your health care. Let me play devil's advocate real quick. What other things are you and other liberals going to go after once you have your free health care? What are you going to decide in society that is too expensive and demand more tax dollars to fix??
BTW I am among many people who are AGAINST the open borders and free goodies for ILLEGAL aliens. So dont use that against me.
Here is the deal you dont understand. My income is paid on a monthly salary. Same evry month. Payroll taxes & child support already cut it in half. So WHEN my taxes go up from this monster bill it will cut into my take home pay even more. But I will not get any additional benefit from this Bill. When you get your free health care then you can send a few bucks my way to cancel the loss of my take home pay from health care taxes. Also once this bill is passed the Gov will be telling me how to live my life even more even though I was NOT asking the gov to fix things for me. You CANNOT put a price on FREEDOM!
No the founding forefathers and other revolutions in history were NOT about health care expenses, but they were rebelling against oppressive governments of the day. With passage of the health care bill power is taken from the private sector and private citizens and given to the federal government. So its heading backwards from the founding forefathers.
As for national health care plans in other nations, they are in debt up to their eyeballs and on the verge of collapse due to the bad economy as well. Health care is rationed and in fact Canadians swarm across the border for American health care even though its out of their own pocket. Its the poor Canadians who think thier system is wonderful. People with the freedom of choice travel south to the US. So we must be doing somthing right.

Did you know that per the healthcare bill as it is now - if you change your policy from your empoloyer in any way, you will revert to the public option. The government option. What does this tell you? In the not-too-distant future, most healthcare will be run by the government. U.S. citizens need to wake up and take a look down the road. It's called socialism. And Obama is pushing for it. By the way - I'm a Democrat.Nancy

To to NancyI agree with you that some people work the system & yes it tees me off to see deadbeats working the system, but it also tees me off to see good honest hardworking people who by nothing more than circumstances cannot get or afford health care. I would rather see my tax dollars spent for keeping someone alive than on some nonsense war or pork barrel spending. I work 6 days a week, I have a disability rating and probably could figure out a way to bleed the system, but regardless of what you or Brian thinks, most of us don't want a handout, we want a fair shake, a level playing field. I have no problem with putting my tax dollars to use for premiums but the way the health care system is now I and many others can't afford the premiums. Oh by the way, I work for the Insurance industry so I have the ability to search out the best rates. Sad isn't it. I personally don't think in a country as advanced as our even one person should go without care. Even if I had insurance I would feel the same way & did years ago when married with insurance. I understand your frustration when it comes to deadbeats who rip off the system. But please do not lump all uninsured and underinsured into that category. It is not fair to those of us who are willing but unable to help. It saddens me to see people forgoing meds or doctors visits because an office call or meds will clean out all income for the month. This is wrong!!! It saddens me also to see intelligent people listens to the bull poured out by both sides in this debate. So no matter what you think of me, I do agree with some of your points, but I still think a public option should and could work, it has world wide. Brian; by the way Talk to people from England, Europe or Canada, most will say they are happy. They have both private & public options and it works. NO AMERICAN SHOULD BE DENIED HEATH CARE!!!!!!
So Frustrating

Someone wrote "NANCY - if I am one layoff away from having no health insurance then I will go on Medicaid like everyone else and when you are the only left with a job tell me how it feels to pay for your family AND MINE!"Whoever wrote this does not get this. If you think it is that easy to go on Medicaid, just try it. In order to do that you have to have virtually no income. So if that is the case, how does my rent, food, utilities, gas, ect get paid for. It is a catch 22. We, the un-insured, are not asking for all that. We are asking to be able to PURCHASE a fair priced insurance plan.
To Brian-I too am am responsible for 100% of my childrens heath care expenses-- example ins, deducatables, perscriptions. In my case, my ex-husband is suppose to carrying insurance and we are suppose to split any monies due from the deductible. Trust me, you won't go to jail if you fail to insure your children. My ex-husband does NOTHING in this department and hasn't for over 4 years. Granted he moved and does not contact his children because he does not want anyone to know where he lives. Its pathetic. Its very hard to contact someone when you dont know where they live. The state of Nebraska does though as every couple of months or so, I receive a child support check.
I only make so much money. I am frugal and know how to stretch my dollars. It's just my income and the occassional child support check. There is no money for a 500-800 dollar a month insurance plan with a 2000 dollar deductible a year. So what am I suppose to do? If you have a reasonable answer, I would love to hear. Before you tell me to take on a second job, I also work more than 40 hours a week and still have kids at home and not willing to leave them to their own devices at night. They need sit down meals and a mom to be there to know where they are and to check on homework, ect.
I really think you are missing the big picture on this. Just imagine if your father left your mother high and dry and she is left only one income and with no insurance and has health issues. What do you tell her?? Sorry Mom, I dont agree with this. I have health care insurance and I don't care one way or the other if anyone else has it as long as I do"
Just because it works for you Brian does not mean it works for everyone, which I would think would become quite obvious after awhile by many of these posts.

Hey Grouch: I'm a republican like Mary! Sorry if we are the ones that are putting the republican party in deep doo doo. It's just that we check our facts. We do not support wars for oil based on lies. We would like to hold war criminals responsible regardless of party. I'll call them like I see them and not look the other way when someone in my party breaks the law. Thank god for a President with a brain. You can thank W for the surge in terrorism and the democratic party. Anyone that thinks that they can defend the policies of the past 8 years must not plan on discussing facts.Becca

So I was in Kansas City this summer at a Royals game. In line behind me was a very nice middle age family from Canada. We got to talking and I asked what they thought of their health care. The guy says "Whats not to love? We have free health care." I asked about their service and he said they live in a rural area so they have it good. The people that live in a city have long wait times. And then the woman said "Yeah, just last year I found a lump in my breast and three months later I had it removed. Luckily I was nothing." THREE MONTHS! Here, it would have been removed the next day. And I might point out that in that time it could have spread like wild fire through her body. They think their coverage is great because they don't know any different. We buy our own insurance and the coverage isn't great. It is a major medical plan with a high deductible. Where there's a will , there's a way. I work in the school system and am privileged to the free and reduced lunch program kids. It really irritates me when the kids that get free lunch drive around with better cars than me and expensive cell phones and plans. Until people start to learn personal responsibility, we are not going to progress in this country. It is sad. And to top it off, now they are taking away my freedoms.Brian

To so Frustrating,1. I personally know of a guy who WAS arrested for allegedly NOT paying child support and sat in a jail cell for a while until it was discovered that a COMPUTER error caused the problem. His X/W went to the authorities with bank statements proving she had gotten her due money. So YES guys can be arrested for not paying obligations. The charge is officially called in Contempt of Court.
to lies lies lies,
Stop listening to conspiracy sites.
1. The war in Iraq was due to Sadam NOT fullfilling his cease-fire obligations with the UN from the 91 gulf war. Bush may be unpopular but he is not a war crimminal.
2. the intell the world gathered on Sadam's WMDs was wrong due to a succsessful disinformation campain carried out by Sadam and his government.
3. The war in Iraq as unpopular as it is is NOT illegal.
4 the rise in terrorism is NOT due to Bush but a rise in Muslim extremeism that filled the partial power vacume created by the fall of the Soviet Union empire when the cold war ended. AS the former communist nation's and Asian emerging markets heated up after the Cold War ended in 91, the demand for oil on the world market skyrocketed which in turn created tons of money for OPEC. Much of it was filtered under the table to terror cells which made them bigger and bolder. Remeber the 9/11/01 attacks were preceded by the Febuary 1993 attack on the World trade Center. There many more throughout the world long before W came to be president.
The muslim hatred of the US started first of all b/c we are not a muslim nation under Shira law. Secondly b/c we & other western nations created Israle in 1948 via the UN. Thirdly what put the hatred over the top was in 1973 when the Yom Kippor war was going on the Arabs were winning and there was danger of them taking over israle and whiping them off the map when Nixon intervines and literally saved the Isralies. When that ocured it permantly ended US policy of trying to be as nuetral as possible to have good relations with both sides. Since then the Arab states have hated us and saw us as pro-Israle and thats when terror cells started to really focus on us.
I am not saying the US does not want good relations with Arab states, but our support for Israle was not out in the direct open before the 1973 war like it has been since that war.

People, before we pass national healthcare we should look at the job they have done at the VA. There has rationed care and underfunding. This is something the country promise veterans and they cannot tke care of the people who have defended the country. They cannnot run any program without running it into a financial mess.Mark

Vet - Since veterans health care don't work lets repeal it and put it in the hands of private insurance companies that should fix all the problems. Everyone knows what a great job they do.I am sure thay are underfunded right now with all the extra cases Bushes oil war has created.

This Bill was written by and for the insurance companies!I remember a time in nebraska when auto insurance was not mandatory. I was sixteen, I paid $86.00 every six months for full coverage on my car. Then the law was passed and my insurance went to $210.oo every six months overnight. Do you think the insurance companies might have had lobbiests pushing this bill? Follow the money. The government does not care about you. Special interests are there only concern.

As I sat at the Veterans Day program last week, I got tears in my eyes. These men and women, from men in their 90's to young men in their 20's, all fought for the freedom's that we enjoy today. I wonder how they feel about the government taking away our freedom of choice. It goes against everything they fought for. My heart goes out to them, especially.

This whole health care deal was suppose to make health care affordable and instead they are making the insurance companies rich by requiring everyone to purchase health insurance or face steep fines and prison time.
I do not currently have health insurance and rarely go to the doctor out of choice and not because of the lack of health insurance. I don't use western medicine as a whole and have not spent more than $200 on doctors in the last 10 years and now they presume they can force me to spend that much or more each MONTH on the chance I might use western medicine !!
What has happened to our REPUBLIC !!
I keep hearing people call this country a Democracy.
A Democracy is where 51% of the people can take away the rights 49% of the people.
This country is a Republic NOT a Democracy and our constitution is suppose to protect our rights so 51% of the people can not take away the rights of 49% of the people.
First health care...what will be next ??
The people that are pushing for this mandated health insurance should really stop and think if they really want to throw their rights away because the next thing they mandate may infringe on YOUR rights.
