LETTER: Are congressmen really pro-life?

Recent statistics from the American Journal of Public Health and the Urban Institute indicate that nearly 200 Nebraskans will die in 2010 simply because they lack health insurance. Yet all of our congressional representatives oppose the health care reform that would save those lives.

Although all of our congressional representatives claim to be pro-life, they would gladly sacrifice 200 of their constituents for the sake of partisan politics and pseudo concern over monetary costs.

What is wrong with our congressional representation that they prioritize politics over the lives of their own constituents?

Multiply those 200 dead constituents by the number of family, friends and true pro-life Nebraska voters. Nelson, Johanns, Fortenberry, Terry and Smith should begin to worry about their jobs. That is, if their conscience doesn’t bother them first.

I don't think that anybody is against legitimate healthcare reform that would help people with pre-existing conditions but let's not confuse reform with the power grab currently passed by the House. It's the Barkyites that have adopted the all or nothing stance regarding public option which is designed to drag everyone kicking and screaming into the government pool.

Our congressmen are pro-themselves and the republican party not pro-life. Love the article about how ineffective those buffoons are. Jeffy 426 out 435. Why are they even in Washington? Have we so much money we can afford to pay for this waste of leadership to continue to benefit themselves and do nothing for Nebraska or the USA? Sad day when we should be ashamed to have them in leadership position doing nothing than admit it is time for a change, time to rid our government of ineffective baggage. Can't wait for the next vote! Bye Bye wastefull baggage!!!

The health care bill as it is passed by the house of Rep is about control rather then reform. Lee Terry said in an interview late last week that the reason that Obama can claim the bill does not increase the federal decifite is that it passes the cost to the state level in medicare/medicade block payments to the state level instead of having the federal level take care of it. The states then have to play the "heavy" by fixing the budget mess at the state level by raising taxes or sacrificing at other departments. So that way the feds can claim this does not raise the FEDERAL decifite.
Also in another way IF the healthcare bill is passed into law, the costs to consumers in higher taxes or ins premuims will take effect immediatly while any benefits will enter into law in 2013. So we will be paying for bill for years before consumers see any benefits. How will you all feel IF you went to buy a new car on a 4 year payment plan but NOT allowed to drive it off the new car lot until the final car payment was cleared in four years? No consumer would go for it.
Also for those of you in favor of this new bill keep in mind nothing is free with no strings attatched. The gov will in effect say "sure we will handle the health care issues and control it for you. BUT you will do this or that for us." They will then use the bill as an excuse to control anything of your behavior as a health hazzard and they will have the police power of a gun to get their way. Be careful of what you wish for. You eat out alot? Not if the gov does not like it. You like to have a drink at a sportsbar while watching your fav team? Not any more since booze will affect your liver. Overweight? if you dont lose the pounds they could FORCE you to go to a weight loss bootcamp whether you like it or not. LAst week the TV show THE BIGGEST LOSER did an episode in DC and in one segment they showed the trainers talking with politicians about weight loss issues.
Yes, people need to live a healthier lifestyle, But should NOT be FORCED to by the government.

It is not that they do not support Health care reform it is that they do not support the prok barreling being attached to the bill. Does it make sense that we pay as a tax payer a deductable for every procedure done by a doctor or dentist. Would you like to see you income tax go through the roof and not have a wage increase over the next 10years.
