A Fremont man was jailed following a report of an assault at a bar early this morning.

Fremont Police Deputy Chief Jeff Elliott said officers were called shortly before 1 a.m. to The Remedy Lounge in the 500 block of South Main Street, where they were told that a fight had taken place outside the bar and a person had been assaulted with a rock.

Witnesses identified a person who had been involved in the fight as 21-year-old Joseph Collins.

Elliott said Collins then fled from officers, who were able to run him down. Collins then wrestled with officers before being arrested for disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.

Collins remained in Dodge County Jail this morning. He had an $1,100 cash bond.

Elliott said a car also had been damaged by a rock during the altercation, but officers were told that the person responsible had left the scene.

Elliott said officers found a person matching the description witnesses gave them a short time later in the 500 block of Empire Drive.

Dennis Gantzert, 22, of Fremont was cited for criminal mischief and second-degree trespassing.

Elliott said Gantzert used the rock to break out the back window of a car, causing $400 damage.

The assault is still under investigation, Elliott said.
