Virgil Cody

Virgil Eugene Cody, 81, of Valley died Thursday,

Nov. 19, 2009, at his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Beatrice to William and Clara (Ballard) Cody. He grew up on the family farm near Holmesville and graduated from Holmesville High School in 1946. At age 12, he began to hire out to local farmers and helped his father with their thrashing business. He married Patricia Fielder on April 25, 1948, at the Nazarene Church parsonage in Beatrice. The family lived in Beatrice and Ellis before moving to Valley in 1955. He worked for the Dempster Shell Plant early on but for most of his life, was a truck driver. Most of the time he owned his own truck and drove for many different companies as a long-haul driver.

Survivors include: his wife; four sons, Gary (and wife, Roberta) Cody and Kelly (and wife, Brenda) Cody, all of Valley, Michael (and wife, Susan) Cody of Leshara and Lanny (and wife, Allyse) of Fremont; a daughter-in-law, Marge Cody of North Bend; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and two brothers.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to

1 p.m. Sunday, also at the funeral home. A private burial is planned.
