Class A No. 6 North Platte handed the Fremont High girls basketball team a 51-29 loss Saturday night at Al Bahe Gym.

The Bulldogs improved to 13-3 while the Tigers dropped to 3-14.

“They’ve got a great combination of size and speed,” FHS head coach Tony Weinandt said. “(Anna) Woodhead and (Kacee) Higgins have been scoring consistently from the perimeter all year and (Tenisha) Matlock is a tough, tough matchup for anybody inside.”

Matlock, a 6-foot-3 Iowa State volleyball recruit, scored a game high 21 points for North Platte.

Woodhead added 18 points in the win for the Bulldogs.

“She ended up getting some points in transition but in the half court I thought we played her well,” Weinandt said of Woodhead.

Liz Sajevic and Allison Bachman led Fremont with seven points apiece and Shelby Riley added six.

“I thought our effort was good,” Weinandt said. “But we still need to improve on scoring at a consistent pace.”

The Tigers are off until Friday night when they travel to Lincoln Northeast for a 5:45 tipoff. Saturday evening they host Elkhorn in their final home game of the season at 5:15.

“We continue to play an outstanding schedule and it doesn’t get any easier,” Weinandt said.
