Keene on ... FITNESS
The Fremont Family YMCA increased the heart rate of the entire city in the Fall of 2006 when it opened the doors to the Hazel R. Keene Wellness Center.
The new facility boasts four seperate workout and conditioning areas that members and guests can get "pumped up" about: a cardiovascular area, weight machine area, free weight area and for the more novice weight trainers, a circuit express area.
More than 75,000 Fremont and area residents call the Fremont Family YMCA home for getting fit.
Hundreds of programs and leagues are offered annually for children, active teens and adults as well as programs tailored specifically to seniors.
Currently, the Fremont Family YMCA is the second largest YMCA in the country, with approximately four acres of facilities including both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, basketball gymnasiums, racketball courts, indoor track, climbing wall, swimming pool and most recently the Sidner Ice Arena.
YMCA director Jerry Rinne says, "We don't want to be the largest." He continued, "We want to be the best."

I Only Have Ice For You
Also a part of the Fremont Family YMCA is the Sidner Ice Arena. Opening in 2004, the arena has become the premier facility in the area for taking to the ice.
The Olympic size Ice Arena offers the best ice in the area for open skating, broomball, bumper cars on ice and, of course, hockey.
With a seating capacity of 350 spectators, Sidner Ice Arena has also become the perfect location for approximately two hockey tournaments every month.
Hockey teams travel from throughout the midwest to take the ice in the top-notch facility complete with locker rooms and a concession stand.
The University of Nebraska, Lincoln intercollegiate hockey team also call the Sidner ice home.
If hockey isn't your speed, Sidner Ice Arena offers open hours for freestyle skating, broomball leagues and skating lessons.
The arena is also available for private rentals.
More than 150 groups take advantage of the rental possibilities every year for birthday parties, office parties or group outings.
