Board of Supervisors

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors represents both Fremont and the county's rural areas and small towns.

Supervisors meet two or three times monthly on the third floor of the Dodge County Courthouse, 435 N. Park Ave. The board also acts as the county board of equalization and approves plat developments, zoning considerations, road maintenance and construction projects. The board approves a county budget and levies taxes on county residents.

Board members are elected for four-year terms from seven districts. They are:

1st District: Rob George (R), 1941 E. 16th St., Fremont, 727-0833; represents Precincts 1A, 1C, 1E and 4D within the city of Fremont and the townships of Platte East and Elkhorn, composed of about 5,137 residents.

2nd District: Leo Thietje (D), 1535 W. Linden Ave., Fremont, 721-8585; represents Precincts 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D within the city of Fremont, composed of about 4,930 residents. He is the vice chairman of the board.

3rd District: Lon Strand (R), 2239 County Road E, Hooper, 654-2455; represents the cities of Uehling, Winslow, Hooper, Scribner, Snyder and Dodge and the townships of Logan, Hooper, Cuming, Everett, Maple, Pebble and Webster, composed of about 5,158 residents.

4th District: Dean Lux (D), 741 Locust St., North Bend, 652-3354; represents the city of North Bend and townships of Pleasant Valley, Ridgeley, Union, Cotterell, Nickerson and Platte, composed of about 5,158 residents.

5th District: Robert Missel (R), 427 N. Birchwood Dr., Fremont, 727-1531; e-mail: sclthng@qwest.net; represents Precincts 4A, 4B, 4C and 4E within the city of Fremont, composed of about 5,324 residents. He is board chairman.

6th District: Paul Marsh (R), 1929 N. Nye Ave., Fremont, 727-5538; represents Precincts 1D, 2C, 2D, and 2E within the city of Fremont, composed of about 5,115 residents.

7th District: Danny K. Stoeber (R), 1535 N. Platte Ave., Fremont, 727-6657; represents Precincts 1B, 2B, 2A and 3E within the city of Fremont, composed of about 5,077 residents.

Courthouse Officials

The Dodge County Courthouse is at 435 N. Park Ave. All county offices are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some are closed from noon to 1 p.m. The following department heads include:

Fred Mytty (D), is county clerk and county election commissioner. His office handles voter registration,issues marriage licenses and other records. Mytty also pays the county’s bills and payroll, produces county budgets, organizes elections and assists the Dodge County Board of Supervisors. Phone: 727-2767.

Cathy A. Dill (R), is county treasurer. Her office is on the first floor of the courthouse. If you're new in town or have purchased a new motor vehicle or boat, you'll need to stop at her office. She and her staff handle auto registrations, titles, assessments and sales tax. They also collect real estate and personal property taxes; inheritance taxes and other special assessments; and issue drivers licenses, learners permits, school permits and identification cards. Debra Churchill is assessment administrative manager for Dodge County. The goal of the office is to fairly and impartially assess the valuation of property uniformly and proportionately for all property owners in Dodge County. The office staff assists the public in filing homestead exemptions, personal property schedules and permissive tax exemptions. The assessment administrative manager prepares an abstract of the assessment rolls of the county and certifies to each governing body or empowered board to levy or certify a tax levy the current taxable value. Carol Givens (R), is register of deeds. Her office is responsible for the recording and maintenance of all documents affecting real estate in Dodge County. Alan Doll is county highway superintendent. He and his staff oversee maintenance of about 900 miles of county roads, 340 bridges and 56 miles of surfaced roads. Phone: 727-2722.

Steve Snover is county veterans service officer. He and his staff provide a variety of services for veterans and their dependents. The veterans service office is located on the second floor of the courthouse. Phone: 727-2719.

Taxes

Nebraskans pay real estate taxes on land, homes and farms, and personal property taxes on vehicles, machinery and business equipment.

Fremonters’ taxes support the following: Dodge County, Dodge County Ag Society, the City of Fremont, Educational Service Unit No. 2, Fremont Public Schools, Lower Platte North Natural Resources District and Metropolitan Community College.

Personal property taxes are based on self-assessment. People with taxable property must obtain tax forms from the assessor’s office and list their taxable property.

The county treasurer’s office mails personal property and real estate tax bills in December. They are delinquent May 1 and Sept. 1 of the following year. Delinquent taxpayers are assessed 14 percent annual interest.

Driver's Licenses & Car Registrations

The state of Nebraska requires vehicle owners to show proof of auto insurance before they can be issued motor vehicle licenses. It must be carried in your vehicle.

Out-of-state cars must be inspected by the Dodge County Sheriff's Department before they can be relicensed. You have 30 days to buy Dodge County plates and you should be prepared to pay cash the first year.

You can obtain license plates at the county treasurer’s office on the first floor of the courthouse.

If you purchase a new car, you have 30 days to pay the sales tax and license the car. These fees are all paid at the treasurer’s office.
