Public, private and post-secondary educations are available in Fremont.
Fremont Public Schools has eight elementary schools which consist of kindergarten through fifth grades; grades six through eight attend Fremont Middle School; and grades nine through 12 attend Fremont High School. Also included is the Fremont Learning Center for grades eight through 12 and Davenport School, which serves as the district’s early childhood education center.
Trinity Lutheran School has two locations - one for daycare and preschool and another for kindergarten through eighth grades. Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools has four grades of elementary school - kindergarten through third - with additional grades coming in the future, a middle school and a high school. A new elementary school building is under construction at 16th Street and Johnson Road that is scheduled to open in 2010.
Midland Lutheran College, Metropolitan Community College and La’ James International College all provide post-secondary instruction.

If you are new to Fremont and need to register your children in the public system, call the Main Street Education and Administration Building, 727-3000. Regular office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year. The building is located at 130 E. Ninth St.
If you would like to register your child at Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools, call Melinda Madsen at the admissions office, 721-9766, Ext. 25. Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the entire year. The office is located in the Msgr. Flynn Education Center, 441 N. Union St. Tuition assistance programs are available.
Those wishing to enroll at Trinity Lutheran School should call (402) 721-5959 to discuss the school’s educational program.
Children need current immunizations, a physical (if entering kindergarten or from out of state) and a birth certificate before entering. Transcripts from previous schools and social security numbers are optional.

Fremont Public Schools have a written policy concerning which elementary school a student will attend. The district is divided into eight attendance areas which surround the eight elementary schools. Parents have some discretion on which school to choose. School principals retain control of the issue and can deny transfer requests due to class sizes. Parents wanting to transfer their children must have the request approved by the principal of both schools.

Fremont Public Schools are fully accredited by the Nebraska Department of Accreditation. In addition, the high school and middle school are accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, an independent regional accrediting agency.
Approximately 2,000 students attend kindergarten through fifth grade at the eight neighborhood elementary schools. Each school has an active Parent-Teacher Association and representatives for each belong to the citywide PTA headed by Jennifer Mitzelfelt.
The Fremont Middle School is located at 540 Johnson Road. It is home to more than 900 sixth- through eighth-graders. Gale Hamilton is principal.
Fremont High School is located at 1750 N. Lincoln Ave. Joe Sajevic is principal there to more than 1,200 ninth- through 12th-graders. Joe Sajevic is principal.
The Learning Center is located at 130 E. Ninth St. in the Main Street Education and Administration Center. The center is directed by head teacher Cindy Diers. Approximately 100 eighth- through 12th-graders attend the alternative school.

Midland Lutheran College, 900 N. Clarkson St., is a four-year, liberal arts and sciences college. It was founded in 1883. Stephen Fritz, is interim president.
MLC is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and welcomes students, faculty, and staff of all religious affiliations.
Students choose from nearly 50 majors and pre-professional programs leading to one of five degrees: bachelor of science, bachelor of science in business administration, bachelor of arts, bachelor of science in nursing and associate of arts. It also has a program - iMpact - geared toward adult learners trying to finish their degrees and will office online degrees beginning this year. MLC also offers a master’s of public accounting degree, which was first offered in 2008.
MLC provides financial aid to more than 93 percent of its students.
The college consists of 27 buildings and a 22,000-square-foot theater on a 33-acre campus. The Event Center for Athletics and Conferencing opened in 2006.

Metropolitan Community College has its Fremont Area Center at 835 N. Broad St. - the former Fremont Junior High School Building.
Todd Hansen is the center’s executive director.
The college offers credit classes in 100 programs. Two-year degrees, certificates and diplomas can be earned. Credits transfer to most four-year colleges and universities. Adult education classes, continuing education and business and industry programs are also offered. High school students can take part in the College Now program.
During the summer of 2009, Metro will be renovating the entire Fremont Area Center. Part of the renovation will including construction of classrooms - including a data center training facility - on the building’s third floor. Additionally, electrical and heating and cooling systems will be updated.
While construction is taking place, classes will be held at Midland Lutheran College.
Metro has agreements with Fremont Public Schools and Midland to hold classes in their facilities as needed.

Students at La’ James International College, 1660 N. Grant St., may obtain diplomas in cosmetology, nail technology and barbering. Classes start the second Tuesday in February, April, June, September and November. Students must complete 2,100 hours - about 54 weeks - and must take state exams to obtain their licenses.
The college is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. Classes range from 10-30 students and about 70 receive diplomas each year. Dorms and financial aid are available. Call 721-6500; Web site: www.lajamesinternational.com.

Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools offers a college preparatory curriculum to middle and high school students, grades six through 12, as well as elementary classes for kindergarten through third grade. Bergan Middle School provides instruction to students in kindergarten through third grade and grades six through eight at Flynn Education Center, 422 N. Union St., while students in grades nine through 12 attend Bergan High School, located at 545 E. Fourth St. All students are taught within a Christian framework which emphasizes high academic achievements. Approximately, 93 percent of Bergan graduates attend post-secondary schools.
There are 22 state certified instructors, with several having obtained their master’s degree. The average student/teacher ratio is 12:1.
Ron Beacom is principal of the middle and high school. Katherine Griffen is principal of the elementary school.
Archbishop Bergan is accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Bergan welcomes students of all faiths, but as the parish school for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church emphasizes the teachings of Catholic Christianity. The students of Bergan have many opportunities to explore all areas of their education, including academic, spiritual and extra-curricular activities. Bergan has an extensive extra-curricular program. Also, a cooperative program between Bergan and Fremont Public Schools makes numerous sport opportunities available to students.
Began Elementary eventually will classes for students through fifth grade. Currently, construction is under way for its new building at 16th Street and Johnson Road. It is scheduled to open in 2010.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension in Dodge County is the people’s “front door” to the vast array of University of Nebraska resources. Teaching, research and extension are the three major components that represent a rich and successful history of the Land Grant University System.
Extension is the vital outreach arm of the university that has made the land grant system a time-tested successful institution in the United States. Extension began in 1914 helping American agriculture become what it is today, the world’s premiere food production system. Extension is leading communities into the next millennium, leveraged with the latest technology, numerous collaborative team efforts and the same researched-based, unbiased information that has always been the staple production of the Extension system.
Extension has been successful at enhancing the lives of Nebraskans. Addressing the social economic and environmental issues of our communities is what Extension is doing every day via individual consultations, workshops, clinics, on-farm research, mass media, e-mail, Web sites and program and direct teaching.
The local Extension staff served the Dodge County area as part of a statewide team of Extension professionals who work and share their talents across the state to meet individual, family and community needs in an efficient and effective manner.

Trinity Lutheran Elementary School is affiliated with Trinity Lutheran Church - LCMS. Trinity offers a Christ-centered education designed to provide growth opportunities that integrate God’s word in these areas: spiritual, scholastic, emotional, social, physical and aesthetic. The school serves children in preschool through eighth grade, and is certified by the state of Nebraska as well as being accredited through National Lutheran School Accreditation.Established in 1884, Trinity Lutheran School is the oldest parochial school in Fremont.
Preschool and prekindergarten classes are located in the Early Childhood Center at 250 N. C St., 721-5959. A licensed day care center is also located here, under the direction of director Dawn Gilfry. Classes in kindergarten through eighth grade are located at 1546 N. Luther Road, 721-5959. Trinity’s main campus on Luther Road has more than nine acres. An extensive building addition and remodeling program was completed in 2003. The church and school is connected and includes 10 modern classrooms, library, computer lab, music room, multipurpose room, gymnasium, chapel and large sanctuary.
Enrollment averages around 236 students, with a faculty of 14 state certified instructors. Students are able to participate in extracurricular activities such as: girls’ and boys’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, coed track, band, vocal music, bell choir and drama.

Sylvan Learning Center offers personalized learning programs for children in every grade level.
Children receive individual attention from certified teachers to meet their specific needs. Personalized lesson plans are tailored to the child after evaluating their strengths and weaknesses. Regularly scheduled conferences and progress reports help keep parents updated.
Sylvan Learning Center provides programs to meet every need, from essential skills such as math, reading and writing, to programs that help children study better or prepare for the SAT or ACT tests.

Dodge County Project Head Start is a federally funded, community-supported child development program serving low-income and disabled children ages 3 and 4.
The Head Start Center is at 1024 W. 23rd St. It has six classrooms and provides services to 125 children at the center and in home-based programs. Services are free to qualifying families. Midland Lutheran College sponsors Dodge County Head Start.
The program provides screenings for hearing, vision and lead; physical and dental exams; breakfast, snacks and hot lunch; and parent education, social services and family literacy.
